My flatmate doesn't really understand budgeting. If my other flatmate and I had both been in at the same time, we should have agreed on a list items for nanny/nannettes' dinner.

The amount she has spent on food and drinks comes to £7 a head.

I realised we could have taken them to Pizza Hut...orthe Bird in Hand for a full Sunday Lunch...for less.

Good thing I didn't get that ragrug - I've had to write her a cheque for £14 to cover me and the nannette.

Good thing it only happens once, since characteristically I sulk at the concept of paying more than £1.50 for a meal. She was apologetic, but seems to have failed to realise that my other flatmate is effectively living off zero financial support from his parents and having to pay all his bills out of his student loan. Ouch.

She didn't mean to spend so much, I don't think; I'm just not sure she factored in how other people spend (or don'tspend, as the case may be).

I'm not sure my spacebar likes me today. I have to hit it unusually hard to make spaces... ^^

*hugs back* I think I should introduce her to the value ranges of food...for basics, most value products are fine, I find. There are some things where you get what you pay for, but as a student it helps to economise somewhat, I think.

Me being a physicists (I wish!) and a mathematitian (a dream...) makes me rather careful with money! I do bunch of calculating and recalculating, searching through the stores, comparing the prices and the quality and such... and in the end even my mom can't believe how much money I save.
Actually, my general conclusion in each and any shopping is "Nah... I don't need that actually!" so the money's safe! :P

oh god yes, I've lived on a very tight budget for years *laughs* and I agree, basics does not have to be the most expensive, often cheaper alternatives are at least as good. Where I get truly carried away is with fresh fish and meats and with the lovely fresh and prefarably exotic fruits and greens...and desserts....definitely desserts.... *makes herself hungry and shuts up*

Sweetie, she made a mistake. When you are young is the time to do this. If you talk to her calmly and make her realize not all are as lucky as she with affluence, I hope she will not do this again. If she does, then is the time to make other arrangements.

Hope you are doing well and are happy! We're all proud of our students!

*hugs* Thank you Cel. I think it's OK - this was purely a one-off event. It's not going to damage my bank balance too seriously; I think she was just being careless and not keep a tally of how much it cost as she went along.

It's my other flatmate I'm more worried about, as his finances are not the best, but I think he'll manage in the end. (I offered to pick up part/all of his bill but, not especially surprisingly, he declined.)

*hugs again* Everything is fine and yes, I'm happy, thank you.

Kebabs (lamb and chicken) and feta and haloomi and peppers and mushrooms and salad and booze and ice cream and sweets and peanuts and cashewnuts and other vegetably things on skewers.

My flatmate seems to like exciting meals...
