And so, on to today.
Got up early (i.e. 8am) because I hadcrazily volunteered to cox my dad's rowing team this morning. It went quite well considering I haven't even been in a boat since about April. I did hit the ban a few times, but not hard, and it wasn't entirely my fault. You see, their team consists of 3 strokesiders, who row with the oar sticking out to their right, and 1 ambidxtrous person who can row on either side. A normal boat has 2 strokesiders and 2 bowsiders (who row with the oar sticking out on their left). So one of the strokesiders had to row bowside. Because this was weird for him, he wasn't rowing as hard. This threw the balance of the boat, so it was permanently verring to my right, i.e. towards the bank. But everything went OK really, and I navigated the tight gaps sensibly. I did, slightly embarassingly, mistake an eight for a quad scull - it was 100m away and I was counting the number of blades because at that angle, I couldn't see how many people were on board. Oops.
Then my dad took me for a spin in the Lotus. If he sells it in the upcoming weeks/months, I might never get a chance to go out in it again :( It's a pity, cos it's a lovely little car. If we were rich, we'd almost certainly keep it, but classic cars are expensive to maintain and insure, and it's only a third ours anyway, cos it's inherited and my dad has two brothers. So it has to go. Alas.
