Ooh, exciting! Well, I do always find when learning languages that I need the stuff written down before I can memorise it properly. Equally, if I see someone's name written down, I'll remember it; if they just tell me then not a chance!

Walking back home after a long day of lectures and supervisions, I saw a white thing on the ground - a plastic wallet containing several shhets of paper. Bending down, on closer inspection this proved to be a translation from Old English.
Hmmm...

There are fewer than 100 ASNaCs in Cambridge (students of Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic), of which relatively few are likely to have walked down that road in the past 3 hours. One was my flatmate. It was already wet and muddy and, realising that more rain would ruin the content, I decided to pick it up and take it back to the flat. The principle was that it would either belong to my flatmate or (since ASNaCs are such a close bunch) she'd know who it belonged to and would be able to return it.

She wasn't in, so I left it on the hall table.

It disappeared.

Turned out that it was indeed hers, and the work in the wallet represented a large number of hours' of translation work. And she was very pleased to have it back. It gives me a happy buzz to know I was able to help.

In other news, I have hiccups. This makes balancing a plat of dinner on my knee and typing at the same time extremely awkward, as every time I hiccup the plate rocks dangerously. Nonetheless, I still appear to be typing...
