LOTRff.com finally came back up so I could update AIHL on there, woohoo.

Now, in which Eni talks about John Innes Centre )

Cells lecture was cool. Well, he went on about easy background stuff that we already knew for much too long, but that lecturer always does waffle a lot. But then he handed me a large cake on a plate and told me to cut it into 16 equal slices, starting from one end and working towards the other. This means you have to look at a whole cake and gauge how wide 1/16 is, of course... I managed 14 equalish slices. The person who was set to do the 16 by going in half, in quarters, in eigths, etc, managed pretty well. This proved his point about how getting a ball of fly cells and turning it into a segmented embryo is only really possible if there are fewer than about 7 segments. Or something. I remember the cake, but the concept was drowned out in lemon gingery goodness! Was a VERY good cake.

In Pathology lecture today, there was a sudden noise, "Bleep. Bleep. Bleep." Sort of like a late 1990s house phone. Then a calm, impersonal female voice over a tannoy I never even knew existed. "A fire has been reported in the building. Please prepare to evacuate."

This is a newfangled thing designed to reduce panic, so I am told. I can't say I have evewr panicked at a fire alarm in my life. When I was little, I was kind of curious as to whether it was real or fake. These days I am just annoyed at having my sleep/spod/lecture interrupted, or relieved at having my essay/lecture interrupted, depending on the lecture! Anyhow, the lecturer checked, and 'prepare to evacuate' does, in fact, mean prepare. Not actually evacuate. So we packed our bags and sat there waiting for either, "Please evacuate now," or blessed silence. We got silence, and the lecturer continued... And still finished early.

Also - saw DUCKLINGS! I squee whenever I see ducklings. They are just so cute...and fluffy...and round...and cute!!

1This was a minor crisis - at least, for Dr X. In which supervision arrangements went down the drain )

(Also - 9 1/2 hours' sleep last night. So nice!)
