Java and SQL comes along adequately. It seems that every time the database/front-end is moved to a new computer, it finds new and imaginative ways to go wrong, and at the same time magically fixes old problems. On the plus side, it's now 80% functional on my laptop, which is the most convenient place for me. On the minus side, at the moment it's the search facility that doesn't work.

Waffle about what's not working. )

Today I got back for lunch to find a mysterious package that was neither DVD-shaped nor T-shirt shaped. As the only things I have ordered that I expected might be arriving today were either a DVD or a T-shirt, I was confused.

I opened the box and inside were two little cutie fluffly beeeeeeeeees! Yay!

I've named them Luc and Terry, short for lucorum and terrestris (the two commonest big yellow and black bumblebees in the UK are Bombus terrestris and Bombus lucorum). They're finger puppets and they rock.

For weeks now, I've had an e-mail sitting in my drafts folder. In one of my random cruises around the internet a while back, I stumbled upon the website advertising the business a very old friend's dad ran. I lost contact with this friend about 13 years ago; the website has an e-mail address for her dad. I am 99.99% sure it's the right guy (chances against two bespoke woodworkers living in the same part of Sheffield, with the same name, somewhat infinitesimal!). So I drafted an e-mail to him, saying hi, do you remember me, I remember you, and so on. I keep looking at the e-mail and thinking about sending it, but then I worry it's worded wrong, or just wouldn't come across well. Sooner or later, I'll hit the "send" button and see what happens.
