Well, today I made ALL the Java in my "submit data to database" form work. So now I get as far as the SQL Exception messages. Which initially numbered in the hundreds. Then I realised that 95% of these were the same message over and over because I had this loop to get data out of a text box and there were, in theory, meant to be 399 pieces of data to get. So I temporarily reduced that to 5, and then the errors looked a lot less scary.
I'm now down to about 2-3 different issues. No idea how to fix them, but in theory once I've found a way, I'll have made a form to update the database, which works, and done it by myself starting from a blank notepad file. My predecessor didn't manage that. Her form doesn't work. At all.
Was up slightly too late last night. Went into the kitchen for some yoghurt at about 11pm and found my cool flatmate along with 2 other friends who I adore. They'd been to the pub and were rather hyper and cute, so I ended up staying around and chatting. Oh, and receiving the most amaaaaazing massage. Wheee.
This went on till 2:30am.
Considering I went to work on 6 hours' sleep and a ProPlus, I think my victory with the code is rather impressive.
Lesbian coffee in just over an hour. Coolness!
Lab lunch today was good. We somehow got into a conversation over the logistics of repeating some well-explored areas of research with bee behaviour...but on wasps. I think this would be really fun, as I like wasps. There are a few problems, like finding a way to control the colony size, and getting a colony in the first place (bees are rather easy - you just order them from Natupol, who sell bees to tomato farmers). But apparently one research group acquired wasps by putting an ad in the local paper: "Do you have a wasp nest? We will remove it for free!"
Also, eep, Michael Flatley is in hospital! I don't like the guy's ego, but I still don't want him to be all poorly! :(
