Today was, in balance, fairly productive. Perhaps not in absolute work-terms, but in stuff-terms.
I am getting a pet programmer, a 2nd year Compsci undergrad from the building next door. She seems sweet and enthusiastic, though amuses me immensely by addressing supervisors as "Professor [first name]". I don't think she believes in surnames, as she doesn't use hers in e-mails anywhere either.
I also booked plane tickets to Helsinki, changing my mind about the dates again, so I'm now there from 8th till 15th June. Giving me a full day of sightseeing in Helsinki to visit my angels. Have a nice, classy-looking youth hostel single room for those two nights as well. I just need to submit the conference abstract, hahah!
Spent half the day trying to track down JEB article, only to discover our postdoc at Imperial had access to it all along, but hadn't answered any e-mails in two days. So now have JEB article. Clearly I e-mailed the author pleading and begging a bit too soon, as now I don't need her to send me a copy! LOL, typical.
Also paid rent, applied for summer accommodation and went on a hunt for a rare book that was translated out of the original German in 1908. Seem to have found it, after poking British Library, Oxford Plant Sciences library catalogue and Cambridge UL, not to mention rare book suppliers, in our own sweet college library. Of course, the library here is a lying scumbag at times, so we'll see if it actually exists...
Oh, and I've let supervisor talk me into submitting to his favourite new journal, once I've done the large amounts of background research, etc. necessary to actually produce the paper.
