I owe LJ an update
3 June 2007 14:23Riiight...haven't updated here properly for aaages and I have a little bit of time to kill (and not much brain to assist in killing it) so I think I will update.
So last weekend I went to
tuxedo_elf's house, where we pottered off to Faversham for a day trip and I bought even more chai, hooray. *loves chai*
We also saw Pirates. I suspect other people have reviewed it far better than I can, so I won't bother.
We also watched lots of DVDs whilst sipping Lambrusco, hooray! And because Mr Tux was having car troubles so ended up stranded at his parents' house, we phoned for a Chinese, which was yummy and excellent. Tux did a marvellous job of walking both Jupiter and Eni, so we were both properly exercised and worn out. :D And Mr Tux kindly gave me a lift home once the car was better, which meant that Tux could run up and say hello to my Awesome Flatmate, and that Awesome Flatmate could come down and meet Jupiter. Love and hugs all around!
I think anything I could say about the LJ kerfluffle has already been said. I backed up my LJ, as I have been meaning to do that for a long time anyway, and removed the interests which might be misconstrued - doing so didn't really bother me, as it's only a list of words after all. Instead I added some more subspecies of bee and a few more kinds of food. Hehe.
My fingers have broken out in icky contact dermatitis stuff yet again and it itches. Boo.
My bee colony with the dead queen is raising half a dozen new queens, which I am rather hoping to be able to breed if I can obtain some males from another colony. The colony itself is now pretty much entirely useless as the bees are stupid, so I am mostly working on my database until I head to Finland (leaving on Friday, btw). Practised my conference speech thingy on Thursday morning - rather to my relief, the audience consisted of the three guys in my lab and no one else, so we could go through my slides one by one and critque them properly. Meanwhile, the undergraduate compsci I've got working on some new functionality for the database is very keen and sweet and full of enthusiasm, so it'll be great to see what she comes out with.
Which brings me up to this weekend. I decided to rock down to Electric Avenue to find out what's there. And generally investigate Brixton Market. This is one of the big Afro-Caribbean markets, and thusly I was able to locate GOAT FISH, which I had for my tea and which was immensely yummyful. Electric Avenue itself smells like death and Immingham. But the stuff there is cool. I really need to try cooking with big white yams sometime. Although I am told Brixton has a big problem with gang violence, all the people I came across in Brixton Market seemed happy, smiley and nice. So it was good. It was also sunny and hot again, which I admit I am enjoying...
