There are some recurring themes in my life.
One of them is ending up perched precariously on a chair, feeding honey off my finger to a random insect that is sitting halfway up the wall.
Today, the insect is Anne-Marie. Anne-Marie is a female Chrysotoxum species, probably C. festivum. She is somewhat camera shy, so I've been unable to get a proper photo of her so far (not least because the light in here is very bad and it's hard to take photos of an insect sitting in a glass or on the ceiling). But she looks rather like this.
As she was a bit dopey and hungry, she was very happy to munch honey off my finger. I'll let her out tomorrow so she can go and do...whatever hoverflies do in January...
