Yeah - for anyone who missed that bit, the Cambridge Tolkien Society is doing a 'dramatic reading' of the BBC Audio Version of the Lord of the Rings on Saturday in Borders, the entire thing. I'm various bit-parts, which is fun cos I get more variety. Nob is hightly amusing.

So that began at 8:45am yesterday; I turned up and we got briefed, then got going. I've found that a 10-scene break is really quite a nice amount of time, but somehow have volunteered for backup sound and admin, as well as all my parts. Saturday will be mad. Spent the day rehearsing, nibbling communal cast crisps, Doritos, cake, etc, drinking lots of coffee and writing.

Got masses of stuff written (by my reckoning). The first few scenes of the Erestor/Glorfindel and more of Erestor/Elf 1, which I'm really enjoying, cos it's non angst-loaded.

Also, the various suggestive and slash-implying comments written on the whiteboard were 95% not my doing!! I only added "Erestor <3 Glorfindel" after everyone else had already decorated it!

Left at 7:35pm to get ready for the Ball.

Appeared at Avvie's place exactly on time and was plied with Bailey's and Jaffa Cakes, which restored my flagging energy. Found the edge of my dress had frayed - doh! But it was only a little bit, and non-serious - yay!

Eni getting ready for a back tie ball: Strip. Wriggle into dress, cursing because it's a hot day and dresses don't fit so well on hot days. Put on shoes, giggling at the sock lines stilll remaining on legs. Brush hair. Apply another layer of foundation/powder/concealer, slap on some eyeshadow/mascara/lipstick. Pack evening bag. Swear at evening bag for not having space for a comb or a purse. Shove in some loose change and other stuff. Throw cloak over shoulder to cover frayed bit. Go.

Found that despite my worries, there was no time issue with the ball - they don't let us in till 9pm anyway. Queed for a bit, talking to people I know. Got let in and found complimentary champagne.

Drank champagne and concluded that it wasn't as vile as I remembered.

Found [livejournal.com profile] girlofthemirror, said hi, then investigated further. Discovered fajita stall, got fajita. Yay! And Yum! Was nice. Wandered some more. Found Girly again, saw she was buying crepes. Had no room, so went to find drink.

Discovered Shark, which is like Red Bull. Tastes awful, but the caffeine kick! I think I got caffeine shakes later.

Got a reasonable idea of the entertainment on offer. Found the Ramsden room had become the Indian room, so nibbled poppadoms, drank Iced Tea, and then proceeded to watch all of East is East, which was showing in there.

Got up and decided to look around more. Got to watch the fire-juggler people accidentally set their equipment on fire, which was highly funny. Also got to chat to my supervisor, who was bladdered from 10pm-ish, but seemed to be enjoying himself.

Wandered round some more, and it dawned on me that I really don't hang out much with many Catz people. Typical.

Found more nibbles, of the choklit variety.

So the night continued along the same tracks - I watched, wandered, looked, nibbled. Tai Chi people were interesting. The Sirens (Female barber shop) were very good and I liked them. The act before them was less good - the girl was trying to sing too high. A lot of people seem to do that. I do that, but at least I know I do that, so don't try to call it entertainment ;)

Had a hot chocolate and Bailey's later. My first alcohol since arriving! Also, come to think of it, my last...

Survived pretty well. Abandoned the Indian room for the second time around 4:15am cos I was falling asleep in there - being upright and drinking water helped muchly. Failed to find coffee that didn't have a huge queue for it. Decided I felt like dancing at about 5:30am, but couldn't find anyone to dance with, so abandoned that idea.

Am very glad I bought the cloak. Probably looked ridiculous, but was warm!! Yay!

I made it into the survivors' photo at 6am!
Then I went to my room and collapsed in my bed and slept till half two - yay!

Conclusion: May Balls are great. If I hadn't lost Girly from about 11pm, it would have been even better. If I'd had a date with me, it would have been AWESOME.

Also, need new dress.

Now, I need to start packing...

Oh, and my mum has said that if I don't get a job when I get home, she'll make me help with Meals on Wheels. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I need a job!!

It was tricky to find people there last night. When I first saw you I was so overexcted. I don't think I have been quite that gleeful since Christmas when I was about 6!

I see we found each other in LJ-space with little problems ^^

Did you visit the (wiltingly hot) Casino in the OCR and the fun fair? I'll get my LJ entry of Catz May Ball out soon, but for now, I need to finish a Heroes of Might and Magic game with Satoshi...
