I get back and find new friendses, which is cool. *grins* Hello to you all!

Thursday was nice - got put on a more direct coach, so arrived on time rather than late. Avvie was as gorgeous as ever. We pottered round London, went out for yummy sushi, and watched A Knight's Tale, which is a lovely soppy movie. Then he showed me around his home town (and ended up buying a vintage megadrive or something). Everything was cool, and Avvie is just wonderful and squeeeee!

Well, the Fellowship Festival, despite our fears of it being a total rip-off, was amazing, although it sounds like Monty had even more fun (her mum was running the Sindarin classes, and so she got access to the Green Room, and they both stayed in the same hotel as the actors, and got to talk to them and stuff like that).

The Saturday was the en masse day. I'm glad I wore my EOAS T-shirt, as it enabled the other EOAS and related types to identify me reasonably quickly so I could join the gang. Liked everyone straight away, although it took me a few minutes to figure out who was who! :p

Most of the memorabilia was soooooooooo expensive I didn't even consider it, but I now have Glorfindel down one arm and Erestor down the other, both in Tengwar. I also have a lovely T-short designed by the dreamy Sandro Kopp, who is simply adorable. I was never overly keen on movie-Gildor, but in real life he is HOT. Also Jorn and Jarl. Tux seems to like Jorn somewhat, so I'll drool over Jarl. Especially when he got his hair out of the ponytail! *slurps*

Anyhow, the Sindarin lady. Our acquaintance got off to a slightly shaky start when she recognised my T-shirt and commented on it, and also expressed her disagreement with some of Master Erestor's comments on the Fellowship Festival (my personal opinion, for the record, is that everything Erestor said was true, but it sure as hell didn't stop me from having an amazing time!). The Sindarin lessons had good content, and she made lots of excellent and interesting points. Presentation started a bit wobbly, but improved as things went along - when she had her resources on the Sunday and Monday, everything was much better, and I have all squeeworthy Sindarin handouts for reference.

It was very interesting learning the derivations of many words we take for granted. The verb to love, 'mela-', for example, if not Tolkien's original Sindarin. It is a reconstruction from the old Noldorin 'mel', presumably dating from 1930 or earlier, if I had to guess. So I was much intrigued, and as she became more interactive and got used to the audience better, and got into more meaty material, I was really enjoying the lessons.

Anyhows... her laptop screensaver is all Nellas and Theban Band pics, her My Documents folder is filled with slash, and her OTP is Elrond/Gil-galad. We've both read several fics, like Runedancer's Unspoken arc. We talked about what fics we liked and didn't, and stuff, and generally bounced.

I met her daughter, Monty, who apparently knows [livejournal.com profile] naath from a previous Oxonmoot, which is supremely cool and made me smile. So coolies. Conclusion: Zainab is actually very nice and OK really, and so is Monty. So yay.

Things I did:

  • Met cool people, namely Ilye+girly, Dusk, Sildil and Tux. Liked cool people.
  • Fell for Jarl and Sandro
  • Bought Sandro's T-shirt (so pwetty! Sandro is such a cool artist!)
  • Ate food
  • Drank coffee
  • Learned more Sindarin
  • Laughed until my abdominals cramped. Craig and Mark are too funny for words!
  • Acquired 1 page of Craig's script for the silly radio play. Much to my delight, one of the most amusing. Want me to scan it for peeking?
  • Fell over laughing as Mark signed the pic Sil drew. *digs around for pic in question* Here we are, this one. He wrote, "You are a sick woman!" *collapses on floor laughing*
  • Fell over laughing at Lawrence and Jed demonstrating stunt fighting
  • Cooed at Tommy Davies, age 6, the cutest little Gimli ever. He was a total star, won all our hearts on Saturday.

And to top it all, Tux and I entered the Tolkien Society Quiz, as the team "Elves on Shelves". We came joint fifth, which was pretty good considering we were just 2, and the other teams were mostly quartets. So we each got a starter pack of Decipher cards (old ones, but still) and a Lord of the Rings Trivia game. Not bad, considering we got one question right entirely by luck ("What was unusual about the swans seen flying over the River Anduin?" or somesuch - thinking of my dear ErestorSwan, we wrote down, "They were black." Amazingly, this was correct.)

So, altogether, I had the one of the best weekends ever!

Now, does anyone know anything about Master of the Rings?

Helloooooo!

Haven't seen you on MSN, or email, or anything, recently - thought I'd just send my greetings over.

Glad to know you're having a good summer. See you next term!
