Is anyone else watching the news?

Heard about what's going on at this school that's been under siege for 3 days with all the kids held hostage?

Well, they've got most of the kids out, although 7 former hostages were DOA at the hospital. Now reporters have got into the gymnasium where the kids were being held. It's burnt out and a smoking ruin, but they roughly estimate that there are 100 dead bodies in there.

Sick.

Yes: one of the perks of working here is live news feeds above every Desk in the Dealing Room. Depressing, isn't it? Worse, Putin's response will be to raze Chechnya from North to South, from East to West: and he'll enjoy the grim support of most Russians, who really do think differently to us effete Western Europeans.

Oh my God, that's awful. I saw something before when they didn't know about the death toll, but I didn't catch any more news after that. It's so awful. I heard that the soldiers opened fire on some of the kids as they were coming out as well. Bloody gung-ho soldiers, they don't give any thought to casualties.

Err, actually that was the gunmen, not the soldiers. Although unfortunately, in the confusion, I suspect the soldiers caused some 'collateral damage'. It's a terrible situation, and it looks to be the eleventh hour for Putin. If you ask me, the soldiers were badly trained and did the best they could in dire straits. Which obviously isn't good enough, but let's not blame the soldiers.
