Grrrr stuff

Laptops...grrrr
Was intending to be on last night. Till late. But then ADSL packed in. Totally. Wouldn't connect us at all. So that was the end of that plan.
Didn't come back on till this afternoon. Therefore I had a backlog of e-mails and a lot of friends posts to read. Still, I'm online again now :D
Since yesterday was hot, it was suggested that we went on a hack rather than staying in for a lesson. I managed to wangle Dillon (who, this time, was wearing...Holly's saddle!), and off we went. Callum (instructor) decided on a long hack, which meant we had to move fast to cover it all in an hour. Hence LOTS of cantering *bounces* That's why I like Dillon - he has a top speed, and will happily follow everyone else.
I felt like a Rider of Rohan, although I suspect that they thought me a little odd when I started emitting Rohirric battlecries as we thundered over the open land...of a football pitch. Fun as it was, I don't really approve of horse riders cantering across football pitches, as it totally ruins the turf.
Still, we went at a million miles an hour (except we didn't, especially as, on the outward journey anyway, I kept falling behind cos Dillon really is a bit of a donkey). When we got back, I was exhausted and so was Dillon. Took his saddle off and he was so sweaty his coat squeaked!
Then he went into a huggy mood, so I ended up standing there with a horse's head resting on my shoulder and my arms wrapped around it. He got a lot of huggles and kisses off me, manipulative creature. But he really does have the loveliest temperament.
Phoned tech support. After 20 minutes of being put on and off hold on a daytime national rate number, I was advised to uninstall the touchpad drivers 'because they're really just an optional extra'. Did so. Was told to 'play around a bit while you're on the phone to me and see how it goes'. My response:
"This is a national rate number, and it's daytime. It'll cost a small fortune. I'll take it away and get back to you if it's still bad."
Well, it was fine for a while, then it came back. Worse. The cursor began opening windows and clicking on the start menu, and then everything would freeze for a few seconds. I got annoyed.
Phoned tech support again today. Was advised: 1. to download updated drivers (which my brother had already tried, and which hadn't fixed it) 2. to try plugging in an exernal mouse. Cue franic search of house for a working USB mouse - eventually found one (brother's); he insisted I was not to use it unless I put on latex gloves! The USB mouse seemed to work OK, mostly, except there's no option to disable the touchpad, so it wasn't a good test really. Got a couple of jumps, but not nearly so bad. However, the compuer had only been on for an hour and the jumping is worse when the processor and stuff start making things hot. Dunno why, but it seems to be the case.
Conclusion: I think it's a hardware problem, i.e. I need a new touchpad. Will make Dad take me to Evesham to make them fix it. Hard drive is currently in a state of non-incriminatingness, so all is well!
