Hooray! Finally convinced the Techies of what I knew all along - hardware fault. Am getting new, replacement machine. Supposed to be here in about a week. Took a LONG time to achieve this milestone though. Got to see mum get mad at someone other than me or my brother for a change, and tell off one of the Techies who was BSing us. Meanwhile, am back using slow old desktop.

*hopes RP problems regarding those adversely affected resolve and smooth over soon cos she hates seeing people she likes and respects get upset and angry, espcially over something as small as an RP* There are things to be angry about, e.g. 300 people dying after being held hostage in a school for 3 days. Then there are things that just aren't worth the effort. Is my opinion. On that note: I hope everyone is all happy again now. *hugs*

Topped up mobile phone, finally. I feel awful and guilty for not being able to answer Uli's texts for nearly 3 days :( Well, I can now. Discovered that topping up is really very easy, which is nice.

After all those daytime national rate phonecalls to the Techie helpline, I think I need to revive myself with coffee and chocolate. *goes to fetch*

[ sarcasm ] Man, you gotta love America. It's great how we don't give a shit about stuff happening in other countries. [/ sarcasm ] I wouldn't have heard anything about what was happening in Russia if it wasn't for YOU saying something in your journal. All the big news channels were going "OMG teh HURRICANE!!!1" and every once in awhile the news scroller on the bottom of the screen would say "Pres. Clinton has heart surgery, Republican national convention, oh, also, lotsa people died in Russia. BACK TO TEH HURRICANE!!!1"

Go eni!

Glad to hear your computers are thisclose to being over. *giggle* I love watching my mom rip into someone. It's nearly frightening. I just stand back and think, "Yeah, bet you wish you'd listened to *me*, don't ya?"

I agree with you you have to keep a sense of perspective. But you have to be upset by the things that upset you, even if they're small things, else you're inhuman but in a different way. Sometimes you shouldn't shout about it. But no-one would expect you to say "people are starving to death in Africa, so I'm not upset that they want to amputate my leg", for example.

(I must add I know nothing about the RP you're talking about, so if I'm completely off the track here forgive me.)

*nods* True - emotions are emotions.

The RP is a slash fandom one, involving a lot of very fandom people. I think with very fandom people (including myself) there is a tendancy to forget that slash should be JUST a hobby, an interest, and is intrinsically rather silly (well, it is!). As I see it, it should be fun; what's the point if it's not. And virtually nothing in the fandom is worth either taking especially personally or getting very worked up over before you've stepped back and looked at it logically. And yes, I've been guilty of taking stuff too seriously before, myself. I just don't usually get into too much trouble for it cos I'm too wary of losing friends from a misplaced rant.

This time, it was a matter of one or two not especially well-worded comments and some possible differences in definition of certain terms, I think. I don't think it was anything personal at any point. Seems to be resolving itself now, thankfully. Hmm...I just don't like seeing people I like making mountains out of molehills.

Er....sorry to seem thick....but what do you mean by "RP"?

*is confused at internet-speak!*

Role Play

Roleplay. In this case, of the online variey, rather than the board game or LARP variety. What is happening is that lots of fanfictiony types have joined an MSN group where we're given a general scenario and world setup. We all pick ourselves a couple of Lord of the Rings characters and make profiles for them. Then we let our characters loose in the scenario to interact with one another and see how it plays out, within the rules.
