I went on the Long Walk to do a Big Shop at Tesco's, which as usual was a definite improvement over Sainsbury's - and so I'd typically have to buy so much I made my arms an extra 3in. longer carrying it all home. Considering I only spent about as much as I'd spend if I ate in Hall for 3 days, and seem to have an almost infinite amount of food, I'm very pleased.

How do you fit 4 bedmakers in a first-year gyp room?
I don't know, but they somehow bleedin' managed it. Why they bothered, I do not know. It's tiny and stinks, but for some reason they all congregate here, like flamingoes round a shrimp pond.

Following a recent discussion on [livejournal.com profile] anuanu's LJ (edit: OK, maybe not so recent, http://www.livejournal.com/users/anuanu/36755.html ), it occurred to me that many of us have diverse and unusual LJ user names (and by extension, net-names). So, I pose the question for anyone who has an LJ username that's not obviously derived from their real name:
How did you get it and/or what does it mean?

I'll start: Enismirdal is the name of one of the many dragons out of Barbara Hambly's novel Dragonshadow. He talks a lot of nonsense (so I felt I could sympathise with him :p ) and catches fish. In the poem that lists all the dragons and their colours, he is described as 'yellow as the flowers, white and black'. So there you are.

This is why a bike is a very useful thing to have. You can park them anywhere in lots of different places in Cambridge city centre and use them to carry lots of shopping.

Conversely, a car is a stupid thing to have. You can't park them anywhere and they break down so you can't use them to carry lots of shopping.

How much can a bike actually carry? (Never having attempted to ride one with more baggage on than just me!)

Well, it really depends on how it's carried. Panniers are most stable but won't necessarily hold that much. A backback is one solution. I always just used to put the plastic bags (double them up) on my handlebars and walk/cycle it back. I used to manage at least as much that way as I could carry - typically about 4 bags of very heavy shopping.

I have just as many bruises now as when I used to do this regularly, so clearly it's completely inherently safe. Um.

Backpacks are definitely the way to go.

I don't know who I've already told this, but tienelle is a very poisonous plant in Janny Wurts' Wars of Light and Shadow books. It also causes prophetic hallucinations, and generally helps wake up latent magic powers. Surviving its effects long enough for this to do any good is left as an exercise for the reader.

Cool. Methinks that is a popular plot device among fantasy authors, as there was a herb with apparently near-identical properties in Barbara Hambly's The Ladies of Mandrigyn.

I'm three days late and I don't care. :) Spent too much time lately on E/E costume so I've been neglecting LJ, stories and muses but they are all right with that. Anyways...

Name: Aduial Peredhel
Aduial: 'twilight' or more accurately 'twilight of the dusk'
Per: half
Edhel: elven
I "stole" Aduial from Ilye's story, Kindred Spirits, where Legolas calls Elrohir "Aduial." I'm more of a morning person than night, but I like quiet evenings. I love seeing the stars come out at night so twilight is one of my favorite times of the day.
Peredhel, of course, refers to the half-elvens (pl. Peredhil). Elrond Half-elven becomes Elrond Peredhel, and his children, brother and parents are also refered to as Peredhel. Now, Elrond has dark hair, right? But when you watch, in certain shades of light his hair has a reddish hue. My hair is naturally dark with reddish highlights in bright sunlight and artificial lighting. I tell people I have "Elrond hair," those who understand anyway. So that's I call myself a Peredhel. :D

And there you have it! When I was in my anime phase (for almost eight years mind you) I never could stick with a name; had about five or six of them in that time frame. But since I got into the LoTR fandom I've stuck with the same name. :D

Yeah, I had a phase like that, only Star Trek. I was Commander Shaelek t'Karakesh of the Warbird Mnei'sahe, and Sehlat the Vulcan wannabe... Then I grew up. Well, a little bit.

Elrond hair. I like it. Wish I could say that.

Chess is short for M'cachessilnath. If Naath hasn't already inflicted the rest of the relavent information on you, remind me to do so at some point.

Naath has not, so I would be most appreciative of your enlightenment on this matter.
