*shoots Evesham in the head*
*repeatedly*

Phoned them to find out where the **** my laptop is. They quickly made up a suitable storychecked with the courier depot and said, "The courier company's van has been stolen, with all the computers in."

I told them that didn't help me, cos another computer would take another 3 weeks and I need the computer NOW. So I've demanded a refund. Well, if we don't have the laptop, at least we can have the money now. They collect our old faulty laptop tomorrow, i.e. January, with their track record.

Does anyone recommend any good laptop suppliers? Please don't say Dell, cos they've been rubbish for us in the past, and don't say anything in the Dixon's group cos they don't even suppliy CDs of the OS.

I HATE computer suppliers!

That is totally and utterly ridiculous!!! Really wish I could help but I am rather clueless for laptops..

Cheap Laptops: Morgan computers on New Oxford Street. They're in Brum, too: do they have a Manc branch? Expensive ones: everywhere on Tottenham Court Road, but last years' models will be cheap (ish).

Ta!

There is a Morgan at Piccadilly :D Of course, since I am leaving Manchester the day after tomorrow, I have no idea if there is one in Cambridge. But I could send my father (+ credit card) and brother along to their little shop and see if they have anything suitable.

Is Tottenham Court Road somewhere in London? *scary-London music* :)

London's only scary because of the scaaaaareeeey people in it. Said Nile, with his sinister 'Boris Karloff' chuckle.

ROFL!
Riiiiiiight...
If I were you, I'd phone them and thank them for such a nice way of behaving with the custommers, and tell them that you plan on reporting them to the "customers service" (or however it is called), no matter the fact that they've made you never wish to buy anything from them.
Just phone them, as for the supervisor, and tell them that.
I wouldn't be surprised if the laptop appeared at your door the next day for half the price!

They will certainly be getting angry letters, believe me!

Unfortunately, at these call centres, the demand, "Get me your supervisor!" tends to generate the response, "He's on the other line taking a call." Whatever happens, it's almost impossible to get them.

I would like to find the place to take customer complaints, as Customer Services have been the people I've been dealing with for the last two weeks, and it seems strange to be phoning the very people I am wanting to complain about!

I didn't mean THEIR customers service, but some state something stuff, some department that deals with your rights!

*nods* I'm not sure what my rights are in this - I'd have to check. Good thought...

I've always ordered my PC stuff from Dabs.com and have had no trouble - their returns service is pretty good, according to my brother who's been using them for years.

Not sure about laptops, though. I'm sure they'd be good, but... could be a bit more expensive than ordering desktop components (like I did).

Give it a look, anyway.

Thank you! :D

Aaah, good, a recommendation for Dabs :D I've been looking into them, certainly. The only reservations I've had have been 1. the computers are only covered by a manufacturer's warranty rather than a supplier's warranty as far as I can tell, which is often limited, and upgrading to a useful warranty can cost £100+ and 2. it didn't suggest anywhere on the site that the machines come with the CDs of the operating system, which would be a priority to me (expecially if I turn all geekish and start trying to install LINUX eventually...)

*shudders at the very thought*

Anything with only one mouse button has to be the work of Morgoth...

My main objection to Macs is that they flatly refuse to run Lotus SmartSuite, which I adore and worship (at least as much as anyone can worship any bit of software). Alas!

My mac has a three-button mouse and a 10-button trackball attached to it right now :)

Micro Direct (http://www.microdirect.co.uk/). They have a shop in Manchester on Upper Brook Street (Bus route 50 out of Manchester, just past the hospitals), but they do mail order as well. They're incredibly helpful and reasonably priced (ie cheaper than Dixons group), and they do a whole heap of everything including laptops. We get nearly all our computer supplies from them.

I wonder how long Evesham would have waited to confess about the theft, if you hadn't pestered them?

I still wonder if they were lying outright, actually. It seems oddly convenient that it comes along as a perfect excuse for yet another delay. But either way, it means I don't get my goods :(

Yeah, I thought of that too. It does sound very... convenient.

Oh sweetie, the great god of Evesham doesn't seem to like you very much does it. You could always just go to PC world or similar.

PC World? Argh! *hides* I would not buy my computer there if you paid me! *considers listing reasons, but then remembers LJ's 4000-character limit on comments* ;)
