When you see this post a poem in your own journal

This is from The Ill-Made Mute by Cecilia Dart-Thornton, a beautiful book with so many intriguing twists and turns. Being the sucker that I am, before returning it to the library I did, in fact, copy out every poem in there, including this one about the seasons:

Autumn is mellow, a lady of leisure
Dew in the mornings, that's Autumn's pleasure
Red on the maple and gold on the willow
Dressed in bright colours, Autumn is mellow

Bonnie bonnie Spring is a lassie fair
Flowers at her feet and blossoms in her hair
Lambs in the pasture, birds on the wing
Rain on the leaf-buds - bonnie bonnie Spring

Merry merry Summer is a maiden gay
Sun on the cornfield and heat in the hay
Tawny-tressed Summer is brown as a berry
Through the long evenings, Summer is merry

Winter is wise, with hair like the snow
Under her mantle the wild creatures grow
Frosts on the hillsides, clouds in the skies
Rest and find peace, for Winter is wise

- Cecilia Dart-Thornton (unless she filched it from elsewhere)

I like it because it feels so happy and begs to be set to music. It just makes me smile. And walking around the Botanic Gardens today, it truly was dressed in bright colours - the trees were such wonderful shades. I am going back there with a camera as soon as I can to capture some of the beauty.

Oh, it was lovely. I'm waiting till I see The Battle of Evernight secondhand (because I buy far too many books) - after the second book, I'm just desperate to see how the story ends! (And Thorn is just a cutie!)

I may actually try for this Saturday afternoon - I want to take a photo of the pink tree while it's still pink!
