Gacked, basically, from half my Flist!

"If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, post a sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else. This is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s)."

1. The Noblest Sacrifice: "Ecthelion shrugged as he helped himself to yet another portion of the dish. "Suit yourself. But I expect you to help me evaluate all the dessert dishes offered to us this fine evening."

Erestor groaned."

2. All I Have Left: "A soft whisper, "Do you remember…?" and he had no choice but to follow his brother's lead." (No, this is NOT dodgy!)

3. Untitled Daeron/Maglor: "But, while on her lips it had been sweet and beautiful, on the lips of this other Elf it was in another class entirely. Powerful, glorious, and at the same time heart-wrenchingly sorrowful. Daeron hardly dared to breathe as he listened, enthralled." (OK, that's 3 sentences...sorry!)

4. Untitled Erestor/Elf 1: "Men, he decided, were simply disgusting."

5. Reborn: "Everything else is different," he said, his soft voice easily discerned even above the waterfall's noise. "But the stars have not changed. Except - " and he pointed to a very bright star just above the horizon " - that one. That never used to be there."

6. Random Glorfindel/? thingy: "He nearly dropped his goblet when he noticed that the amazing Elf was staring back at him."

And some original, just to prove that I don't always write Elves:

1. Dragon Master: "He sent grief to the dragon, the sensations of hot, wet tears, strangled sobs stifled in a dark, empty room, an internal heaviness, as if the weight of the emotion was crushing him, a dread of the future lest it bring more loss."

Hmmm... Looking back at such old writing, it's funny how rough it looks in places. I dunno if I'm better these days, or just more cynical!

2. Untitled 70-page randomness: "He would have been well-advised to look at Aska properly. Because the expression Asgeirr wore showed not a single trace of disappointment. In fact, it was the face normally worn by men who have just fallen in love. He was regarding the awkward foal with abject adoration." (OK, another rather-more-than-1-sentence!)

3. Chase the Dream: "He stroked his beard with a thoughtful air - Yumag imagined to he was trying to look distinguished, but on one so young, with such a boyish face, the mannerism seemed faintly ridiculous."

4. Flame Star: "He arched a too-perfect eyebrow as he considered this, reminding her of a comment an acquaintance of hers had once made, about how, if one had the choice of the form one took, who, in their right mind, would ever choose to be anything less than beautiful?"

5. Lady of the Knight: "He'd treated Velké politely - almost gentlemanly - ever since their first meeting, when having counted five suggestive winks from him, and noted his hand being laid on her arm six times, and her leg once, in what she regarded as an inappropriate manner, she'd knocked out one of his teeth and split his lip, never mind that he outranked her."

OK, I'm stopping there, before you all decide that I am utterly incapable of finishing a story, ever.

Although it's true, I suppose.
