Excepting that in the case of Japan, it was still sailing to invade, whereas in the case of Britain, the fleet was sailling home when it got wrecked...

I always thought the Armada had been softened up nicely by a storm before it reached us. I'm not sure where I got that impression.

Well, vaguely. It was forced into port by one before it reached England, but as the port in question was La Coruna (Northern Spain), one assumes they had little problems making repairs and stuff.
