Gacked off several people:

If there is at least one person in your life who you consider a close friend, and who you would not have met without being part of an online fandom, post this sentence in your journal.

Because there are a number of you, and you are wonderful and I am so very happy that I met you all. *huggles and kisses*

I was told yesterday that if I believe that there is still much to be happy about in this world, that makes me naive.
I think I disagree. I think there is much to be happy about.
There are more than enough awful things, yes. But there are not just awful things. I like the nice things better, overall, so I don't want to forget them.
People in love and sunshine and flowers and funny dreams and silly jokes and hats and teddy bears and strawberries and pretty poetry and orange juice and comfy chairs and kids learning new stuff and being all proud and excited, and new babies and chocolate and music and soppy movies and walks in the middle of the night under the stars and Children in Need day and Comic Relief and people going on holiday for the first time and sunsets and little shiny beetles and...

OK, I'll shut up now. Sorry.

Given that you weren't trying at all, you're scarily close to fitting the Viennese Waltz rhythm of "My Favourite Things" here...

lol, yes, that was the first thing that came to my mind too. But they are both right, or so I'd like to think... :)

Of course, there is a lot to be happy about. I personally think it is naive and jaded to NOT see the good that also exists. If it was that bad-wouldn't everyone just top themselves? Just because there is a lot of negative shit, it doesn't work on a counteracting system where any bad crosses out good-contrary to many people's beliefs.

You be happy and enjoy your time on this Earth!

You too! It's a good policy, it really is.

Yes, I agree - forgetting the good stuff must turn people into terribly miserable old gits!

Eni, love, I am old and somewhat jaded, but I still fervently believe there is so much good in the world that those who cannot see it are sour, cynical poops. ;)

Err... not sure why this would bother anyone... Don't think I qualify as a close friend yet, but I was very happy to meet you =) . (And btw, what in the world is a tarsier?)

It was just something someone said that made me thoughtful... wondered if I was just being sickeningly optimistic on the matter.

Yep, happy to have met you as well. :D

Heeee, a tarsier is the fluffy thingy in the picture. They're a kind of primate...I guess they qualify as monkeys (they are a bit of a pain to classify, because they look more like a primitive monkey, but genetically they are more evolved than people expected). They have eyeballs bigger than their brains, and basically almost nothing is known about their behaviour as they are nocturnal and live deep in some rainforests in Asia. And they are CUTE! *grins widely*

Hakuna Matata!
What a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata!
Ain't no passing craze

It means no worries
For the rest of your days
It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!

Why, when he was a young warthog...
When I was a young wart hoooog!

Oh my...ahem, yes so anyway, thats a great mental attitude to have. *hides*
Fishy*

Oh, that's how you spell it?!

I always thought it was something like Acoone Matata.

Cool!

And yeah, it's more fun!

Yankees, varmints that live north of the Mason-Dixon line, typically shoot daggers at you with their eyes if you say; "Have a nice day." American Goth's think the world is a cesspool full of shit, and we are all drowning in it. That's what happens when there are too many people living so close together I guess. Even when I am unable to see the light of life, I know it is there.

Well... maybe we just think you're being socially polite instead of MEANING "Have a nice day." Corporations require their employees to say it to customers, and hearing from people who HAVE to say it makes us a little skeptical... Try "Hope you have a good one" or "The week's almost over", usually better results, they take effort to think of, so it comes off less as "I'm done talking to you, go away now."

*hugs Eni* Sweetie, no offense, but you're bouncier than mexican jumping beans, but in a good way. :) Someone was just being cranky at you. As long as I don't have to be chipper, feel free to be as optomistic as you like. (Look, try having freezing weather Thanksgiving and being cheerful... if the cold doesn't rack ya off, the grey that will stick around the next 4 months will... maybe it's just me. *shrug*)

*hugs back* I don't think he was being cranky - we were just discussing opinions. I think he has a rather different world view to me, that's all. Probably because he is a military historian; I suspect it gives you a rather different outlook studying wars for years on end.

And no, you don't have to be permanently chipper. I might be as bouncy as a Mexican jumping bean, but I am not permanently chipper! We've all got to be human in the end! *shivers* I hate freezing weather too *goes to hug radiator*

Pah. I'm with you. There IS ALWAYS much to be happy about. And if that makes me a Pollyanna, then curl my hair, stick me in a ruffled skirt and send me off with a basket of flowers, dammit.

Life is what you make of it. I choose to make mine out of chocolate covered elves.
