I HATE FIRE DRILLS
2 December 2004 08:01Whose. Bloody. Idea. Was. That.
The time is about five to eight. Enis are not voluntarily awake at this hour. But Eni jst stood for 15 minutes barefoot on VERY cold wet flagstones looking very pissy.
In fact, Eni is very pissy overall.
Why is it that when it's a fire drill, a load of porters turn up and start regsitering people, and there are authority figures everywhere, yet when it's a real fire, as it was the other week, albeit a stupidly small oven fire, no one can be arsed at all? It seems to be the wrong way round... I prefer real fires. They have the graciousness to occur when I am awake and wearing real clothes, are generally more amusing and involve few obnoxious people following us around.
Amusingly, as I had been roleplaying and spodding till 3:45am and didn't have to be up, I'd put in earplugs against the bedder's vaccuuming, and thence discovered that this blocks out enough of the fire alarm that the sound wakes me gradually rather than abruptly.
I bet they'll threaten us with another drill soon...
I'm going back to bed till about noon. Goodnight.

Date: 2 Dec 2004 12:41 (UTC)Actually, I would have minded 5am less than I would have minded 7:30 (when the alarm first started) because after that I could have gone back to bed and had a reasonable sleep! As it was, I got 2 blocks of 4 hours, which is not a substitute for 8 solid hours.
That time on the morning after the end of term is just taking the piss, I swear...
I am just swearing at lot today!

Date: 2 Dec 2004 11:06 (UTC)And the b******s turned the lift off and left it off. As if being got up at that time by a screaming alarm wasn't bad enough, I got to go up six flights of stairs at a time when my arthritis is generally pretty bad. Having to stand in the cold for ages did not help either.
Grr. Bite.

Date: 2 Dec 2004 14:23 (UTC)If you're physically incapable/find it physically difficult to evacuate using the stairs, there should be special arrangements in place for you to be helped out (usually via a designated lift with a firefighter).
