Whose. Bloody. Idea. Was. That.

The time is about five to eight. Enis are not voluntarily awake at this hour. But Eni jst stood for 15 minutes barefoot on VERY cold wet flagstones looking very pissy.

In fact, Eni is very pissy overall.

Why is it that when it's a fire drill, a load of porters turn up and start regsitering people, and there are authority figures everywhere, yet when it's a real fire, as it was the other week, albeit a stupidly small oven fire, no one can be arsed at all? It seems to be the wrong way round... I prefer real fires. They have the graciousness to occur when I am awake and wearing real clothes, are generally more amusing and involve few obnoxious people following us around.

Amusingly, as I had been roleplaying and spodding till 3:45am and didn't have to be up, I'd put in earplugs against the bedder's vaccuuming, and thence discovered that this blocks out enough of the fire alarm that the sound wakes me gradually rather than abruptly.

I bet they'll threaten us with another drill soon...

I'm going back to bed till about noon. Goodnight.

They just enjoy seeing all the nubile students in dressing gowns. That's why they choose ridiculously early in the morning.

7:55am??? That's nothing....they often have out fire alarms at 1, 2 or 5 am. Not fun!!!

I'd actually prefer 1 or 2am because then at least I'd still be awake and dressed and alert!

Actually, I would have minded 5am less than I would have minded 7:30 (when the alarm first started) because after that I could have gone back to bed and had a reasonable sleep! As it was, I got 2 blocks of 4 hours, which is not a substitute for 8 solid hours.

That time on the morning after the end of term is just taking the piss, I swear...

I am just swearing at lot today!

Graaah. Snap. They had one here too. 7am.

And the b******s turned the lift off and left it off. As if being got up at that time by a screaming alarm wasn't bad enough, I got to go up six flights of stairs at a time when my arthritis is generally pretty bad. Having to stand in the cold for ages did not help either.

Grr. Bite.

Because using a life when there's a fire isn't safe, in case the electrics go.

If you're physically incapable/find it physically difficult to evacuate using the stairs, there should be special arrangements in place for you to be helped out (usually via a designated lift with a firefighter).

I don't mind using the stairs to leave the building -- that's fine. What I object to is then leaving the lift turned off *after* the fire drill. They often also leave it off for whole weekends, which is actually what really annoys me.

I think wandering into your kitchen and discovering that other people have set it on fire is probably slightly more traumatic :)

Nevertheless, I sympathise.

Aah, yes, I imagine that was.

PS Nice show Wed morning. Much more pleasant than the vaccuum clearer of d00m outside my door.

Seems to be popular today. Or at least, our alarms went off at around 9:45. I was up and dressed, but it isn't exactly ideal preparation for a Japanese oral test.

awwww, stupid fire alarms: I've had rather a lot of them (mostly at night) and it's just not fun... Although I confess we've not had a drill here yet. I feel your pain!
Hope you got thawed out quickly, enjoy the sleep

I wasn't overly fond ofthe whole fire drill incident either. Hope I didn't seem to grumpy... I was still about three quaters asleep and also rapidly becoming a kate-shaped-ice-block
