Happy Birthday Suzi!

Today, I did a psychology experiment. It was quite fun and earned me £7, which was nice. But there was a small hitch - it seems that the tester and I have different definitions of 'vegetable' versus 'fruit' - as in, my brain has got to the point of only using the Biological standard of, "Does it have seeds?" In my mind, seed-containing = fruit, anything else = vegetable. As it seems to suggest here. Unfortunately, for the purpose of the experiment, a pumpkin and a corn on the cob constituted 'vegetable', so I was having to forcibly alter my thinking to get them right (which isn't terribly easy when you are on your 115th little icon and supposed to be going as fast as possible). At least classifying faces as 'male' or 'female' was easier (they were cartoon-faces), so I only got that wrong when my finger hit the wrong key!

Also popped into interviewees' waiting room to talk to some of them and drink free coffee (though not necessarily in that order!). But since 'free coffee and biscuits' tends to spread round college quickly, existing students outnumbered interviewees in the waiting room by about 4:1. Which probably terrified the poor interviewees and left the undergrads holding conversations like,
"Hi, are you an interviewee?"
"No, I'm a third year Biochemist. Sorry."
"Aah, that would explain why you are in jeans, not a suit."
"Yes."

Yesterday, I went riding for the first time in weeks. Today, I sure as hell know that I went riding! *massages various stiff and aching muscles* Was much fun; the horse (Hespo) used to be on the Italian Olympic team (except he's old now - though you wouldn't believe it to look at him). He was forward-going but understood 'stop', which is the best kind of horse, really. Of course, he was a far better horse than I derserve, but he was terribly sweet. Instructor here seems to agree with instructor in Manchester - I lean forward too much and ride with my reins too long. It's good that they agree, anyway, as it certainly confirms that they are real problems for me to work on and not just a subjective thing. There is a picture of Hespo in a dressage competition last year.

The day before yesterday, I saw a man be arrested. The police people actually say that whole speech thing off the Bill! You know, "Youdonothavetosayanythingunlessyouwishtodosobutitmayharmyourdefenceifyoudonotmentionwhenquestionedsomethingwhichyoulaterrelyonincourtanythingyoudosaymaybegiveninevidence." I don't think I've ever seen someone arrested that close to where I am standing before. It was theft, anyway.

And is this a general thing now, where traffic wardens take digital photographs of illegally parked cars? This seems like a REALLY good plan, overall :D

Can I ask where you ride in Manchester? I am going to reward myself for graduating next Summer by learning to ride, but I have no idea where to go....

Ashton Hall Equestrian Centre in Ashton on Mersey.

Pros -
the instructor is lovely and very good
there are some cute horses
they have 2 large outdoors
not too expensive as riding schools go

Cons -
tack can be a bit tatty (still reasonably safe though)
the owner doesn't always use the best sources for his horses - the novice horses are all safe, but some of the advanced ones are a bit wacky
they are about to have to pull down their indoor school because they built it about twice the size the council gave them permission to!
