So this was 2004
13 December 2004 20:291. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
had a relationship; met online friends in RL; got my fics posted online; become a fandom geek; sat Uni exams; done NaughtyTM things; given my address to someone online; travelled in London without a 'minder' of some description ;); roleplayed; bought a Tube ticket; bought beer; got contraception from a doctor; tested my own blood group
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I stopped making them as soon as school stopped making us write them out!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I think some of my cousins did. It happens quite often. Their progeny is now roughly equal to the progeny from my pet Drosophila.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
I think my uncle died at the beginning of '04, but we weren't really close.
5. What countries did you visit?
Scotland, Wales, Estonia, Finland.
6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
Comfirmation that I can do Plant Sciences in Part II. A 2:1 or a 1st in Part 1b. A driving license might be nice, but not essential.
7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
19th June - LOTR readthrough, which was great.
29-31st August - Fellowship Festival, in which I met some real lovelies in RL.
There are other important days too - getting together with Girly, splitting with Girly, getting together with Avvie, splitting with him, meeting various online friends for the first time, getting Underestimated archived, the Wank Weekend, playing on EOAS for the first time, the day I first dared RP to NC17, the day Eluréd got himself a sweetheart... but since my knowledge of the date is usually +/- 5 days, I can't give specific dates for anyof these.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a 2:1 in Part 1a. Getting fiction archived online.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting a 1st.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
A jolted ankle, the odd sniffle, something that might have been flu, but I had Nice Drugs so it was OK.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Fellowship Festival tickets!
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Everyone who has given me a hug - virtual or real - on an off day. Uli, for being there at all the right times.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Some people. People who take themselves too seriously.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Food.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
LOTR readthrough. Fellowship Festival. Estonia. Scotland. Each and every time I went back to Uni. Each time an online friend came back after an unexpectedly long absence.
16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
Anything by Nightwish or Blind Guardian, as this was the year I first heard them!
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier!
ii. thinner or fatter? Exactly the same if you take averages.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer in terms of absolute money available for spending, but poorer in the end as the Student Loan Company own all of it really!
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I was phyiscally capable of doing more work without going mad.
Listening.
Telling the people the truth when they need to hear it - but I'm too spineless.
Writing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Fangurling.
Procrastinating.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With parents. Ideally, sleeping, spodding and eating sausages.
22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
No. There were people who I loved, some I still love, but none in the way of, "I want to spend my life with you." Which, at my age, is probably good.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV programme?
I watched too little TV to decide.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I think there are 4 people on the list, but I could be wrong. And no, no-one I know knows all 4 of them!
26. What was the best book you read?
I can't remember which books I've read this last year!
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Blind Guardian, followed closely by Nightwish.
28. What did you want and get?
A decent grade in exams. A laptop. More lovely friends. Decent reviews. Hugs. Chocolate. A nice 2nd year flat.
29. What did you want and not get?
A first (OK, I'm preoccupied!). Time to finish as many fics as I wanted to.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
ROTK!
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Coped with a drunk Avvie and comforted an upset Girly. Tried to avoid celebrating. Was 19.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Hmm...a first? Maybe seeing people take a little more time to think - and I'll include myself under 'people'.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Bright, baggy, silly.
34. What kept you sane?
Friends. Girly, Uli - and also watching people be insane!
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't think I've had a crush on a real person for some time...Sandro Kopp. He is YUMMY in RL. And also nice. And an amazing artist.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Bush's re-election.
37. Who did you miss?
Anu. Also Nellas...haven't seen her for ages!
38. Who was the best new person you met?
So many! About 75% of my friends list are from 2004! I guess I'd have to name
ford_of_bruinen as the one who I've met this year and subsequently grown closest to. Also Tux, Bekki, the Boys, Andrannath, all yooz Cambridge types, so many fandommy people...
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Being a doormat is both a good and a bad thing.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Bounce, Bounce Nothing's gonna keep me down
(I googled something suitable - that's allowed, right?)
