15 December 2004 19:17This article on Breatharianism is about the funniest thing I have read in ages...oh, they really do defy all sense. *is gasping for air*
Someone 'critically reviews' the interview here.
Transferred Drosophila from old yukky coffee jar to new, big shiny coffee jar. Unfortunately, of the two surviving adults, one flew away and the other seems to be a bit nearly-dead and is unlikely to recover. (EDIT: checking him then, make that no surviving flies.) But their genes and transposons live on, as there are lots of pupae that I collected and put in the new coffee jar :) *wonders if she'll eventually manage a net increase in number of flies by repeating this for a few generations*
*wonders how long pupae take to hatch*
*goes off to check the all-knowing Google*

Date: 15 Dec 2004 19:25 (UTC)LOL. They lost me in the first paragraph where they said "Vegetarianism is relative to eating mainly vegetables for food. Fruitarianism is relative to eating mainly fruits for food." which sort of misses the points, whether you think fruitarianism[1] is nutty[2] or not.
Fruitarianism is a sort of cannon-killing-a-gnat[3] response to demonstrate there are things weirder than vegetarianism. Breatharianism is the tactical muke of the knowing weirder diets world.
[1] AFAIK this is either not killing plants for food (ie. plucking is ok, but gutting[2] the whole thing by taking the only tubor isn't) or not HARMING plants, by only taking stuff that is ripe and ready for plucking, or already fallen.
[2] Pun intended.
[3] Why did I spell that 'knat'? I obviously knew there should be another letter, but forgot which :)
