BUGGER! I missed the last episode of Fingersmith! *cries*

On the plus side, I seem to be writing an essay. I know, I can't believe it either.

The question is, can I dredge up the motivation to spend all of Easter term tormenting Dr X by handing in an essay a week and expecting him to mark each and every one of them? I would take a vague, sick delight in that...

Portugal in 2 days. Oh yes, if I haven't mentioned it to you, I will be in Portugal, somewhere near Lisbon, from Wednesday 13th till Wednesday 20th. Leaving late Tuesday night, returning hideously early on Thursday morning. The official reason for this is to learn about plants and ecology and Mediterranean flora. The unofficial reason for this is to drink cheap beer, eat yummy Portugese food and enjoy the good weather and magnificent scenery :D I am looking forward to it already.

I am jealous. I've visited southern Spain but not Portugal. Do check out the cuisine known as "piri-piri.". Hot and spicy but very nice, especially with chicken. :)

Oooh, yes. I've only had chicken piri-piri in sandwiches here, and I am guessing the English approximation is somewhat inferior! I will try and get my hands on some...as well as Portugese clams in the cataplana (sp?), which I have had before and is absolutely delightful.

I'm building up a huge list of things I need to take back from Portugal (assuming the import/export rules still allow it):
Marmelada
Portgese cheese
Portugese salami
Alcohol
Any chocolate things that are still available on the continent but not in the UK any more...

:D

Portugal is part of the European Union. I don't *think* we have border controls for anything (people and animals are different) provided it isn't illegal to posess it in the UK.

There were some kind of restrictions at some point with meat and dairy cos of BSE, but I think that was mainly stuff going out of the UK (even though France now has a higher rate of BSE than us, AFAIK...). But I think salami is OK to import into the UK...

Will you meet Tal?

Nah, I think she's somewhere in the Azores, which are a collection of pretty little islands scattered somewhere in the Atlantic. Not mainland Portugal at all and a bit complicated to get to for a visit, unfortunately!

Aw... so close and yet so far! :(

I know I would be sad if you came here to the seaside and it would took me hours just to see you! :(

Portugal! Cool! I went camping there many, many years ago as part of a tour that took in southern France (for the second, maybe third time) and Spain. Loved it. Enjoy the week!

Oh, and Fingersmith? Surely not - Casanova is the costume drama to be watching....
