Flutterby, and bouncing

I have a flutterby in my bedroom! It is a red admiral and it was about to get squashed on Botolph Lane so I put it in my glasses case and took it home and am trying to feed it. And learned that butterflies have a startle reflex if you switch on a desk lamp near them. It's sitting in my spider plant now. I think it needed warming up.

Also, tuxedo_elf is way, way cool and everyone needs to worship her and proclaim her their new god.

How to keep butterflies as pets, part 1.

Butterflies have expensive tastes. The butterfly, who we'll call Ernie, turned its noseproboscis up totally at sugar solution. But then I gave it honey and water mix, and its slurping that up happily!

I think this means that butterflies use scent as a cue that something edible is nearby.

ETA: I'm such a sucker. Not only did I feed it with my German honey, I wiped its mouth when it was finished.
