1. I have new bees and they are very cute. It's a very young, tiny colony with only about 10 workers. AWWWWW!
2. I have an offer of a digital camcorder on loan for about 3 weeks - a very high quality one at that!
3. CompSci got back to me and says that the videos are poor but they can still be analysed without too much inaccuracy, and therefore I should be able to extract a suitable amount of data for statistics as long as I supplement with a second data set from new colony with new camera.
4. Mile End Park doesn't have the type of beetle I want. At least not at the moment. So tomorrow I am going on Adventures to find the right type of beetle.
5. Also, forgot to mention this yesterday. There's a Bombus hypnorum on campus! Wheeeee! These are very cute little bumblebees that are common across the channel in France and Germany but are only recent arrivals here (first seen in 2001). Although I suppose they are technically invasive, they don't seem to be pushing the other species out so I guess they're OK. This little chap seems to be a regular visitor to a Buddleia just outside the department.
There he is.
