Am annoyed. Was woken at 5:45 by an alarm.

An alarm *just* loud enough to wake me when I am sleeping without earplugs.

It went on and on for long enough to make me really wonder if it was some seriously messed-up version of the fire alarm, and long enough that I actually got my coat and padded down the stairs to the Porter's Lodge to find out if it was a fire alarm.

It wasn't. It was a single alarm in the Porter's Lodge, which I believe is the one that goes off when there is a powercut in one of the far buildings, no Porter, and only one other blinking, confused-looking student.

I grumbled back off to bed and attempted to salvage some sleep. It went off almost as soon as I got back under the covers.

Blegh. Lovely auspicious start to a day of experiments.

I once spent a week being woken at 6am every morning by the neighbours alarm clock, through the wall. (They always get up that early, but normally they are not on holiday and therefore turn the alarm clock off before it wakes me too.)

Eww! That's evil!

What was confusing was that over summer my next door neighbour's alarm sounded exactly like mine and went off five minutes earlier...

Oh, I meant to tell you - I was reading the Metro (free newspaper) today at work, and there was a tiny article about how an experiment on bees at a Cambridge college has discovered their ability to recognise human faces. I presume this to be the very experiment you are working on, and I got very excited to see it in print! :D

Awww, that's so cute! I'll have to tell Adrian tomorrow - he'll be dead chuffed, I am sure! Although it wasn't research I did - Adrian did it while he was working with a Professor in Germany so actually Cambridge wasn't involved at all - it is the same guy as I am working with now, and the training techniques we have used are very similar!
