1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Spent my birthday somewhere other than college or parents' house!

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any. I don't seem to have much success with them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
*thinks* Well, [livejournal.com profile] lotrfan_angel17 did. Gorgeous and adorable twinses!
I am sure one of my cousins did as well, but I can never keep track of their sproglets these days.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My granny did; we weren't close, but she was my granny. Also, my guinea pig, Sprouts.

5. What countries did you visit?
Portugal, Scotland.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A degree! A PhD project! A paper with my name on it!

7. What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
My birthday, cos I was visiting Uli. Probably the day I got hit by a car, though I've forgotten the actual date already!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
A 2.1 with a 1st in Plants?
Getting good bee research done?
Doing honest work, 9-5, for a whole 8 weeks!

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't remember when I fail...

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, I had a coldy thing in Lent term that responded nicely to lots of Hall's Soothers and ibuprofen. And then there was the car thingy. But nothing terribly serious.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Firefly DVDs, plane ticket to Inverness, Port...

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lots of people! All my close friends. [livejournal.com profile] ilanin, for keeping my morale up over summer.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Oh, you got to work really hard to make me depressed with just your behaviour. There were one or two people who made me displeased to some degree, but either it's forgiven, forgotten, or no longer a part of my life.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food. Port. Travel. CDs.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Bumblebees!! :D :D Visiting Uli and Tux! Going to Portugal! So much, really!

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Nothing specifically!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
The same, I think. Generally happy, off-days cured by nice things and shameless self indulgence. Possibly a little more worldly wise and thus more cynical

b) thinner or fatter?
Weightwise, exactly the same, but I am not sure if it's moved to a different part of me!

c) richer or poorer?
Richer in terms of money I have immediately available; poorer in terms of the fact that in not too long the Student Loans Company will want it all back.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing essays and fics.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Pathology!

20. How did you spend Christmas?
At home, with family, being lazy.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Uli, I think, especially when she's been internetless.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
No, but I started loving people I either didn't know or didn't love in 2004. "Love" is a bad word. Refers to too many totally separate concepts.

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
House!

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate...nah, too strong. "Have intense dislike of"...yes, a few! But I tend to avoid them and they tend to avoid me, so it works out.

26. What was the best book you read?
HBP. Please don't shoot me.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Deine Lakaien, and Big Country.

28. What did you want and get?
A decent Part 1B mark, an enjoyable Part II project, a bit of extra cash, some research experience.

29. What did you want and not get?
I can't think of anything! Hehehe.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
It's a tie between Nightwatch and Harry Potter 4. I'll decide some other time.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 20, flew up to visit [livejournal.com profile] ford_of_bruinen, had the most fantastically awesome time.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If my summer project had been more interesting, I guess.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
"Don't buy any new clothes cos the old ones are fine."
Also, "Big knickers are SO much more comfortable than small ones!"

34. What kept you sane?
Friends, family - my brother's mocking is a great reality check! Also, other people's craziness! The more other people overreact, in the right conditions, the more rational I get (depending on my personal emotional investment in the issue).

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Liam Neeson. (*nervous giggle*)

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Fundementalism in all its forms! *dislikes*

37. Who did you miss?
Say_Aye, Anu, Abner and other now-graduated CTS people, Evieya cos she's so busy in RL she's hardly online, and Girly cos she's been all busy and I've hardly seen her!

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I've met some wonderful new people! I think I met [livejournal.com profile] ilanin in late 2004, but I might be wrong, it might be later - he's on the list. Also, [livejournal.com profile] innocencest, of course, and [livejournal.com profile] jalbobble and [livejournal.com profile] lilnick, though I know them less well. And Red and Kei, who I think I really got to know this year! And lots of others!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
Even if you think your brain is dying inside your skull, you will make it to 5pm.
People on the internet are sometimes totally different to who they claim to be, no matter how convinving they may seem - make friends, but don't give them your details till you know them better!

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I'm a big big girl/In a big big world" :D

- Where did you spend your birthday? ... And when is it? =D
- What does 2.1 etc. mean?
- What's HBP?

I feel warm and fuzzy inside for the fact that you mention me =D Friendship takes a new level when someone mentions you in their journal! *hugs*

- Well, I spent some of it at Luton airport, some of it at Inverness airport and the rest at [livejournal.com profile] ford_of_bruinen's house! It's 14th June, as stated on my userinfo ;)

- Those are the different grades of degree. A 1st is really good - I think something like 25% of people get 1sts; unfortunately that doesn't usually include me. A 2.1 is next best, followed by a 2.2. Most people get 2.1s and 2.2s. If you want a PhD you need at least a 2.1 realistically. The lowest grade that still counts as a "pass" is a 3rd. Not many people get 3rds in practice, but it happens.

- Half-Blood Prince, dearie! Harry Potter 6. *grins* I really enjoyed it!

*hugs* You are worthy of much mention! You are undoubtedly one of the coolest people I've met in 2005! :D :D

14th December I think you'll find. I did have to count backwards from Theathon and then double check though.

Yeah, that sounds plausible! If I was less lazy, of course, I could scroll back through my LJ entries to check...but effort! Hehehe.
