Just spent an hour and a half in the computer room. Conclusions:
1. I can't work SPSS.
2. I can't work Minitab despite having been taught to do so. (This might be rectified by digging out the lecture notes and trying again).
3. Excel statisitcal analysis is AWFUL.

This is the point where being a scientist isn't so cool... *considers getting out a book and doing it by hand*

On the plus side, I am eating Pocky :D :D

HA! Jenny has you listening to them too??? OMG...

And Minitab...ooh, been a long time, but I loved it when I used it...

And...uh...what is Pocky?

Minitab's OK when I can make it work. It's supposed to be pretty idiot-proof, so I think I am just an idiot today!

I think Jenny is on an A-ha world domination mission! :p :p

Pocky is a East Asian snack (allagedly popular in the US and UK among anime and manga fans - and also among Enis!) - biscuit sticks dipped in chocolate (or strawberry, etc.). Picture here (http://www.bewarethecheese.com/pocky.jpg). Picked some up in Chinatown today since we were there! :D (Well, actually I got Funzels (http://www.geocities.jp/raumensyunpou/singapore/pocky/010729funzels.jpg), cos the shop was totally trying to rip us off for real Pocky!). They are very yummy and addictive...and I just ate a whole box. Oops.

oh! Okay. We have something like that except instead of biscuits, it's a candy...mint or some other fruity flavor dipped into chocolate. Mainly seen at weddings.

Must say. When I use Excel, I do the actual statistical analysis by hand or in something else.

Then again, I'm a physicist and everyone knows that biologists are better at statistics than we are. (There are things living under rocks in deserts that are better at statistics than we are.)

I don't blame you. Excel and I are currently not on speaking terms, and I suspect once I know what formula I'd have to use, I could probably get the right answer faster than I could from trying to use Excel...

Lesson to be learned: don't trust supervisor to design an experiment with easy stats; learn enough about stats in advance to design your own. Even if means you lose an evening of free time.

You were listening to the best song in the world to play when you need to write a realy good Depressing Scene...perfect for atmosphere! And I got the email - thanks dear, you're amazingly, wonderfully picky *hugs!* (Maedhros -> hands -> *sobs softly*)

Ah Minitab. How I alternate between loving thy speed when you do work, and wanting to tear you an interesting new orifice when you don't.
(I have done my stats for this project though, yay.)

I remember doing ANoVas for my uni internship by hand because I also could not work SPSS...and Excel stats do suck immensely. ;)

Good luck with all of it! :)

Thanks! I've folded and ordered myself one of the best guides to working SSPS that's around (luckily not toooo expensive). It might get here too late to be of any help to me this time, but I am sure I will need it in future!
