*bounces lots*
9 January 2006 22:09So, the weekend!
I went up to
innocencest's house after lunch. We then watched the rest of The Empire Strikes Back, the whole of Return of the Jedi, and almost all of The Phantom Menace (Jar Jar Binks really needs to have someone set fire to the tips of those ears of his...).
Much cuddling happened and I was happy and full of chocolate and coffee, which was delightful. His parents fed me nummy gammon and things! So it was muchly good indeed!
I was very lucky to have left when I did, even if it did mean that the last 15 minutes of The Phantom Menace must wait for next time, though - I discovered at the bus stop that I arrived just 3 minutes before the last-but-one bus was due (1953), and the last bus was at 2220! So it was a good thing I got the 1953, I guess!
And
innocencest gave me Roverandom and Tales From the Perilous Realm! Squeee! I now need to swot up on them both in preparation for the 2006 Varsity Quiz! *bounces lots*
Then I went into LONDON! *bounces* It was a bit rainy and cold, but very very much worth it, cos both
tuxedo_elf and
luin77 were there!! :D Hugs were had by all. We did Covent Garden, where we joined in with a busker's rendition of Any Dream Will Do, browsed shops that sold cool gimmicky things in bright colours... I succuumbed to one of the stallholders in the market bit and purchased a bumblebee rubber stamp. I now need to buy embossing powder to make pretty gold embossed stamps!
We also discovered the magical wonderfulness that is Chai Latté. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
We did a river taxi trip, and saw cool things like The Globe Theatre and Tower Bridge. I looked at the water of the Thames and boggled at how anyone manages to cox a boat on that river! I also saw a cool bird, that might have been some kind of cormorant or shag.
There was a large amount of giggling and potting, and Tuxie and Luin both took lots of photos which will hopefully appear on the internet soon. :D They are both fantastic girlies and we chatted about Elves for...well, a good part of the time! I am so excited about EU!
Lunch was an all-you-can-eat in Chinatown - at 3:30pm! Was yummy actually, and included soup with mystery vegetables in! (I think it might have been Lotus or Arrowroot, but I am not sure. Then we went on a Pocky-finding-expedition - this included us walking in circles through a Chinese supermarket, me coughing lots in a particularly spicy section, and us eventually locating a patisserie which sold Pocky and less famous brand equivalents! I also bought Pandan Mochi, which I keep getting urges to dip in chocolate sauce...
Tube strikes began at 6:30pm so we went for more coffee near Liverpool Street station before I went for my train and Tuxie and Luin went for their Tube at about quarter to 6 so they were in a place to be picked up before everything ground to a halt. Thus, we all got home at sensible-ish times. Cambridge greeted me with enough rain that I almost considered forking out for a bus, but there wasn't one waiting at the stop so I just ran home!
One and fifteen-hundredths of a bee done today. Went out with supervisor and his Aussie colleague who he's writing a paper with on something else - we ate at the Eagle, which was nice. Was too lazy to go to Sainsbury's for more milk, so I guess breakfast tomorrow will be toast...
