Leave a list of characters in your journal that you would love to get a message from. It is your friend-list's mission, should they choose to accept it, to write you an in-character "letter" from a character on that list. Then they post their own list in their journal and the process continues!

1. Finarfin
2. Fingon
3. Erestor
4. Maedhros
5. Maglor
6. Eluréd or Elurín (yes, I am counting them as one choice, so there)
7. River Tam (Firefly)
8. Orophin
9. Raistlin Majere (Dragonlance)
10. Q (yes, the Star Trek one)

Oh, and...
11. Artaher (if Uli has a chance to read this!)

Why Q? As it were. He's interesting, sure, but just *really annoying* to talk to. I feel I could fairly surely predict what he'd say (on anything difficult he'd dodge), whereas some of the other characters might actually be interesting to see what they were really like, beyond being crammed into being a hero for 43 minutes :)

I love Q! That general mould of character (powerful, arrogant, sarcastic, attention-seeking) appeals to me - they are so pettable, and always make me smile (especially when things stop going their way!).

Eni,

Thank you for your message of the 26th. I should admit, at this point, that it wasn't actually addressed to me, but when one is omniscient such things are hard to miss. A human might have said that my ears were burning. He would, however, have been wrong, and not just because I do not have ears in any way his tiny mind could comprehend. I do not like to brag, but I am the talk of entire civilisations, so the odd person here or there could not make any significant different to the temperature of my ears even if I had any, which, as explained, I do not.

You may be wondering why I am writing. In fact, I am wondering why I am writing. I am, as you may be aware, omnipotent. Therefore, I have literally an infinity of other possibilities open before me. I could, for example, engage in deep-sea fishing on Altus III, or skydiving through the atmosphere of Talar (the phaser blasts from the automated defense platforms, I find, add the perfect ambience to the sunrise). A recent hobby of mine has been to give Borg drones in adjacent alcoves orders to proceed to opposite ends of the vessel with all haste, and watch their attempts to walk past each other. My choices are quite limitless; nonetheless, I am writing to you.

I could have merely implanted the memory of this note into your brain, but that would have missed the point. To perform an action is to provoke a reaction; one without the other is not only nonsense, it's less fun, and that's what really matters. If I were a human, perish the thought, I'd say I'd be watching for your reaction. I, of course, don't have to. We have a saying in the continuum - well, of course we don't have a saying per se, because none of us need say anything - "What part of omniscient don't you get?".

I could say rather more - as previously discussed, indeed, I could do anything - but I find that I have become bored, so I won't.

Yours,
Q.

Dear Q,

I am most grateful that you would take time out of your undoubtedly busy schedule to write to me; in spite of the fact that you omnipotent and no doubt the most accomplished of multitaskers, I am certain that you have many more important things that you could have done at the time.

Your letter made me squee muchly, as I am sure you already know, and I believe I bounced on my chair, as you would also already know. One of these days, someone will have to figure out a way to suprise you. Now that is a challenge!

I should, however, keep this brief; as you already know, I have laundry in the washing machine and if I don't collect it now, I am afraid someone might well start moving it around for me and probably lose one of my wonderful Amsterdam socks in the process.

I hope the Continuum is shiny.
Regards,
Eni

Dear Eni,

Rei prompted me to send you this letter, as your Daeron was so kind enough to write her. And our Daeron is always saying I need to socialize more, if even long-distance. Please forgive the somewhat sloppy handwriting; it has been awhile since I've held a quill.

Winter is persisting on the shore, though it's no longer quite as cold as it was during the Yuletide. Daeron has suggested quite a few shall we say inventive ways to keep warm, none of which bear repeating in polite conversation. I in turn suggested his time would be better spent knitting a new blanket. We try not to go outside unless necessary, though as Faron is still young and full of energy, he demands a lot of exercise, and doesn't seem as bothered by the cold as either of us. We must be getting old.

Daeron sends his regards and believes that you would be interested to know that it is thanks to him that I no longer smell of rotting ocean-life (his words), which is perhaps true, but a bit unfair. If I'd had soap prior to his arrival, I certainly would have used it. He is very interested in progressing our relationship. I told him if he could train Faron to sleep somewhere other than in the nest with his "parents," we'd talk. Wet puppy noses tend to put a stop to possible romantic moments before they can begin.

I hope that you are doing well. Please write back soon, as Daeron will no doubt inquire about your response every three hours until you do. He can truly be such a child sometimes.

Regards,
Maglor

Dear Maglor,

Thank you so much for writing - your letter was lovely to read. I hope Daeron has not been nagging you too much, as I know I've taken a few days to reply. Do send my regards, and give him a big kiss from me!

I am sure you will find Faron is very good at keeping you young and bursting with energy; pets are amazingly therapeutic, I find, and good companions. And cuddling with a floppy dog is always another good way to keep warm!

It is wonderful to hear you two are still so happy together, and I would definitely advocate being bold and trying new things! I am sure that, in fact, you smelled just lovely before - less like fish and more like salty sea breezes. Still, soap and bathtimes are always fun, especially if you have someone to share the experience with.

Best wishes!
Eni
