Just literally got back in now. (I HATE Stagecoach vehicles...so clapped out...)

Booted up computer to see if the world ended while I was in Oxford.

Laptop screen suddenly works fine. WTF?! I have no idea why it's suddenly fixed itself.

*gives up* Can't grumble about that, anyway. We'll have to see if the situation continues, of course...

ETA: It's gone again. But this time it went totally on the left half of the screen and only partially on the right, and flickered for a while before the right went totally dim too. This computer is teh weird.

I was worried there that your scary computer lady was actually right about your pc healing itself!

Hehehe. After having the amazingly talented and scarily brainy [livejournal.com profile] mdavison look at it, we concluded that the backlight itself probably isn't the problem, and the weird behaviour today seems to confirm that - the flickering and irregular light suggests a power supply thing to me.

Nope - warranty ran out a few months ago, unfortunately. *sigh* Aah, well. At least I now have the cool monitor as a backup plan. :D

I was going to suggest that maybe it's over heating, but since it's a laptop, that probably isn't it...Have you searched the manufacturer's site to see if there's a forum for discussing tech problems? It might be something common to that type of laptop.

Well, all the forums suggest it's the backlight, and all evidence we have suggests that it's not. So I guess it's a mystery still to be solved. ;) I don't think it can be overheating, as I've got a program telling me the temperature of the processor and hard disk, so I know exactly how hot the computer is running - and the screen itself always feels cool.

It's quite bizarre!!

Hallo (http://jenish.livejournal.com/346593.html?thread=5139937) :)

I hope the laptop behaves itself. My last monitor started randomly dying and needing several reboots to start, then eventually died. Luckily, my dad had a spare. /random

Hey there! Pleased to meet you! *grins*

I'm glad you had a spare monitor when that happened - last weekend nearly turned into dire computerless d00m for me, and the proscpect was rather scary! *was very glad to have got herself a new monitor within 24 hours*
