Looks like my latest purchase will be a shiny new printer!

Old one (which is old) has a problem where it keeps telling me the cradle won't move (when it will) - this according to online techie forums, is probably an issue with the gears inside, and probably not fixable. Since several places sell printers at, like, £30 at the moment, and I could find even cheaper ones second hand, I don't think I have a real problem.

I think there is a curse on my Works of Isengard!

Technology is *always* evil -- Tolkien implies so!

Printers are cheap because the consumables are expensive.

I've always thought that printers were the most evil form of computer hardware - I've always found them temperamental even at their best.

If most of your printing is in black and white, it might be worth considering a cheap laser printer rather than an inkjet. The initial price is a little higher (£50-£75) but the toner it comes with will last for ages and the cost per page is much lower. They're also substantially faster and more reliable, with no print heads to get blocked. Mine makes it much easier for me to print papers and essays.

That actually might be worth looking into!

I'd say most of my printing probably is black and white (aside from the odd high quality full colour Elf!), so yep, nice idea, thanks!
