So Flower (guinea pig) went to the vet's yesterday. She's definitely got mites in her coat - the guineas seem to get them almost every spring, and the odd bath and maybe an injection will usually take care of it. The appointment was about her ears. Well, her right ear. It's been itchy and flaky and irritated since Saturday.
He's given us some eardrops for us to administer, which should clear that up. He also gave her abdomen a poke. Flower's mother and sister both went pear-shaped as they got older, and this seems to be because they both had large ovarian cyst things. Flower these days is more or less spherical, and the vet noticed this right away - he says it's fluid buildup, which could be cysts again (which I suspect), or a tumour type thing, or organ failure. Whatever, she's probably not going to be around ever so much longer.
She's 7, so she's done OK for herself considering she was the runt of the litter and has twice the number of nipples she's meant to have. I guess we just have to keep an eye on her to make sure being spherical isn't bothering her.
