Meme post.
23 April 2006 15:57Cambridge is green and pretty. I miss my family a bit - it's a reaction to knowing this is the final push to finals and graduation. But stuff is good. Corpus is flying St George's Flag just across the road, which is kind of cool.
Bedder rearranged my room in a silly fashion, so I had to move it back. I had it nicely optimised, you see. It was, amusingly, too hot. Opened a window (my parents must be doing a double-take - their daughter, opening a window voluntarily...!?) and it's rather nice now. Removed about 2 cupfuls of ice from the freezer compartment, increasing its capacity pretty nicely.
And this one, which
evieya and, I think, someone else tagged me to do, so I'll do it! *grins*
Write a little paragraph about your name, why you chose it, what it means to you, etc.
When I first read Barbara Hambly's Dragonsbane and its sequels, I was in love with her writing, her characters, her worlds. In Dragonsbane and its darker sequel, Dragonshadow, there is a little poem containing the names of the dragons in that world and their colours. Teltrevir, heliotrope...Centhwevir, blue knotted with gold...
(I can only find a German version online, but it will do for illustrative purposes:
- as you might guess, Morkeleb was the main dragon who we followed in the books.)
Enismirdal, yellow as the flowers, white and black... ;)
We got to meet Enismirdal later in the story. He was a pretty, young dragon - he was curious in the indifferent way of dragons, and spouted lots of nonsense and asked odd questions. I sort of identified with the funny creature - being someone who occasionally spouts random nonsense herself! So somewhere in my online career, I just started using Enismirdal as a screen-name, and then people started calling me Eni more and more in real life... And thus I am Eni!
I like it - it's a name I sort of earned for myself, and I think it's cute. It's a bit more interesting than my real name!
What would you change your name to, if you were changing it?
Hmm...good question. Perhaps another random dragon out of a Barbara Hambly book! Or perhaps some unspellable, unpronouncable Angle-Saxon name (maybe a male one, just to be extra-awkward and confusing!). I rather like Enismirdal, however - it seems to suit me, and Eni is a good nick (and happens to sound a bit like a nickname I had at school that was derived from shortening my surname). It's also not fandom-specific, so if (god forbid) I ever got bored of LOTR, it would carry me rather nicely into a new fandom, I'd think.

Oooh...
I like
tuxedo_elf because it's fun and quirky! Also,
phyncke - I can never spell it, but it's just lovely and amusing and unusual. There are lots of others on my flist that I've always thought were cute as well! :D
jalbobble just makes me smile when I see it written down!
