Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] lifes_a_dream!

Today is a day of Behavioural Ecology. It's a really interesting subject, but when I'm going through it I can't escape the feeling that most of it is all the same - animals do stuff to get more matings and have more babies. Repeat x100. Hee.

Have ordered an awesome couple of books that have caused outrage amongst Christian fundamentalists across the pond. Hee! Will chatter more when they arrive.

Bedder decided not to clean my room or empty my bin today. Bad bedder.

Tuxie lent me her Alexander DVD, which I LOVED! I know the critics HATE the movie and I'm sure the historical accuracy is about as good as the scientific accuracy in Ice Princess, but the eye candy... I want to be Alexander! I want a pet Hephaistion and a pet Bagoas, because they are GORGEOUS and eyeliner-wearing. *has fantasies about Bagoas on a leash*...mmmmmm...

Does anyone know where I can get Bagoas wallpaper or Bagoas/Alexander wallpaper or Bagoas/Hephaistion wallpaper? I nabbed Theban Band's for now, but I change my wallpaper fairly often so I fancy new ones fairly soon. *grins* Bonus points if it comes in 1280x800 pixels (yes, my screen is 1280x800. So very random).

Hmmm...I'd try looking in an Alexander community on LJ. I think I have a few listed in my user info if you wanna surf. I also know that [livejournal.com profile] erviniae is enjoying playing with her new graphics program and has tons of Francisco Bosch piccies. I bet if you ask sweetly, she'd make you one.

Glad you had fun with Tuxie. :D

Actually, as I just took that "Age of Alexander" class, I can tell you that the whole movie is practically based on Plutarch's Life of Alexander the Great. And apparently, there's a lot of debate over whether Alexander was this fantastically great guy who had visions of world peace and all nations holding hands and hugging and stuff, or whether he was this evil tyrant that killed people who were in his way and wanted to take over the world. Most people go for the middle ground, apparently, but the movie is more towards the former, based on the work of some dude named Tarn. After having taken the class, I think I'll watch the movie again to see how it measures up!

And lots of agreement on Bagoas. Damn, he was pretty. I now have The Persian Boy by Mary Renault (historical fiction about him) but have yet to read it (I'm working my way through my "to read" list at the moment XD).

The soundtrack for that movie is pretty freakin' awesome. I'd reccommend it, if you're into soundtracks.

Oh, yes, I LOVED the music when I was watching the movie. Really pretty - epic type movies always seem to have those fantastic orchestral scores.

I added The Persian Boy to my wishlist too - I'll get around to reading it one day. That Mary Renault seems to have written loads of interesting stuff, actually! Didn't she also write a non-fiction biopic of Alexander? I seem to remember Wiki was citing it as a source.

I approve of Plutarch. He seemed to like the whole gay thing. *grins* And yeah, I approve of the sort of "bit of both" idea of his personality. I'm sure he must have been a bit of an arrogant twit to go conquering all the known world, and I bet it was a big ego trip to have so much power, but there seem to be hints here and there that he had some nice huggy ideas too... LOL!

Most aggressors want peace (i.e. for the enemy to give up without a fight) and imperialists often want world peace after they have conquered the world (how else do you keep it?). One world ruler is some people's ideal- so long as it is their type of ruler...

MR's biog of Alexander is nice, her research seems solid and you can feel she really liked him. The Persian Boy is a huge favourite of mine - though her description of Bagoas is the one that is 'real' for me, not the dude in the movie who bears no resemblance to him (as the character was taken from the book, I would have thought they would at least have tried to cast someone closer to the physical description (sorry, personal rant)) I love her books - if I hadn't read them in my teens I might not have ended up reading slash...

Yeah, Heph was the reason I was glad to have tons of icons space. He was also the reason I started looking through Jared Leto's filmography...I bought a couple three a few okay, like...6 movies, just because he was in them!

I have a bazillion caps from the movie, let me know and I can zip them and put them up if you want to download them, several bagoas pics, not sure there are too many wallpapers, but you could make a few if you wanted...
