Am I the only one who find that, when I receive an essay back that has no grade written on it, but the comment, "This is OK/good but needs more of...", it's really not as helpful as it might be. Is that "OK" as in a low 1st? "OK" as in a high 2.2? Cos if it's a solid 2.1 essay then no, I'm not too worried about making it enormously better. But if it's teetering on the brink of being a 3rd, then yes, I should be taking notice of the suggestions. Meh...

I feel less clueless this week, anyway. There are now some lecture series where I feel semi-confident. And some where I know once I've gone over the material I'll be good to go. This weekend will be mostly dedicated to Quorum Sensing, Agrobacterium, Erwinia and Rhizobium.

Today, however, is being mammalian breeding systems. Roll on ye mongooses!

Have shiny QMUL application form to fill in.

Also, have asparagus, as it was cheap in Sainsbury's.

At least you get comments...John Carr didn't write anything on my TMV essay, though he did talk about it after he claimed to have read it.

Wow! The time I handed in an essay to him, he didn't put a grade on it, but he did at least put lots of helpful comments...

Haven't even had my essay back from Howard that I gave him in first term. He probably lost it, I guess...

I normally take 'OK' to be 2.i. But I do get a bit miffed when I ask specifically for a grade and nothing gets put on. Then there was the essay I handed in in Michaelmas which I found recently in the Part II pidge with nothing written on it. At all.

I am going to cling to that hope!

(Even though the way I presented the essay was a bit loaded: "Please can you tell me if this is total nonsense?")

That sucks, getting back an essay with nothing on. Meep!

My 1A Cells supervisor marked everything with just a single tick and 'good'. We never managed to get any more feedback out of her than that!

Ewwww! I find when they are doing that it almost seems a waste of time handing things in.

Yes, I think most people responded by simply not handing things in!

Me too! Was jolly nice and juicy, the chunky kind not the skinny kind.

Only during exam term was it normal to get an idea of a grade. Then again I was a historian.

I have had one essay graded this year and they don't seem to be grading them this term either.

Oh, well. I'll just keep working and hope for the best...
