Blot. Blot. Blot.
20 May 2006 18:27Northern Blot = RNA
Southern Blot = DNA
Western Blot = protein
Why can I never remember which one is which?!
(Oh, yeah, and Southwestern Blot, if you want proteins that bind to DNA. Joy!)

Date: 20 May 2006 18:48 (UTC)The blot to test for DNA was the first one to be discovered, by a Mr. Southern. Then, the next - a not-quite copy of DNA = RNA: and the guys who found this one called it "Northern" for shits and giggles.
Since there are only two points of the compass left - they took "Western" (no idea why, though) for the proteins. Mnemonic trick that worked for me: "There are lots of proteins in Westerns." i.e. beans and beef. *ggg*
The name "Eastern blots" is not yet taken - up to you to discover something. *^_^*
Alternatively, you could simply go from DNA to RNA to proteins (logical chain of transcription/translation) and imagine the cross from South to North to West. That forms a "1".
Luckily, I'm already done with that stuff. Until I start working on a thesis that involves lab work, probably.

Date: 23 May 2006 10:40 (UTC)A typo for NATO? (An alliance against what?)
A typo for The Axis of Evil (It isn't a collective (i.e. bloc) except in the American mind; Iran and Iraq talking?- they might be now!)
