Two things
30 May 2006 19:53This makes me...there are no words... Just...WTF? Someone please please tell me this is a hoax story. (Reuters link from
gyre originally - got a link to an apparently Netherlands-based news site here as well though.)
There is now a politcal party in the Netherlands consisting of Dutch paedophiles.
I really cannot think of any way to express how much that makes me want to shut myself in a biscuit tin and never come out. Or possibly execute someone.
In more encouraging news,
foreverdirt linked to this a while ago, and I was very very impressed with the campaign and have been meaning to reproduce the link on my own journal. Men Can Stop Rape posters. Coolness. Also, I really like the pictures of happy, nice people being happy and nice.

But the men can stop rape thing=good idea! I hope it's working.

There are, I am fairly certain, more votes in hanging paediatricians[1] than legalising...anyway.
[1] No, seriously. The News of the World demonstrated this quite clearly in England a while back.

Date: 30 May 2006 20:08 (UTC)The Netherlands' age of consent is a tad strange anyhow if it is as I recall; it requires parental permission between certain ages. A very 'interesting' country...

Date: 30 May 2006 21:24 (UTC)As for the Men Can Stop Rape posters, I can't help but feel the message is sort of wrong. Obviously I approve of issues like this being publicised because it's extremely, extremely important, but there's a self-congratulatory tone to this that's made me a bit peeved - sort of like, "I didn't rape my partner - do I get a cookie?". I mean, I think people would be quite a bit put out if it was suggested that choosing not to murder someone, for instance, requires great strength.
I'm probably being overly-sensitive, but I feel it isn't quite the right message.

Date: 31 May 2006 12:43 (UTC)I think what appealed to me most is the positive tone. The British campaign is all, "This is what will happen to you if you DON'T do the right thing." Whereas this US one is about, "Look, this is what it's like when you hold back and DO do the right thing."

Date: 30 May 2006 21:46 (UTC)How about you and me we go blast the shit out of all of them? And that's coming from a pacifist.
