I attempted to look up that weirdo insect we saw in the Basel Botanic Gardens. I think it's some kind of potter wasp (like in the picture only without the markings). Coolness.

I've got addicted to this French TV mini-series "Spiral". It's funny how, unlike similar-ish series from across the pond of the crime drama genre, e.g. CSI or Law & Order, there is no attempt made to glamourise the process of investigating a crime - full on shots of murdered decomposing bodies, watching a creepy politician invite a teenage girl into his home with a scary leer, moderately explicit pr0n showing on TVs in the background. I also learned what French for "fisting" is, at least if the subtitles are to be trusted. Much to the great amusement of me and my brother. So that's cool, for being so radical and unashamed of the dark side of police life.

Will write Minicon update at some point. I didn't take a huge number of photos, alas, but quite a lot are of the cats! *grins*

I guess Tux is on a plane now, heading back to the UK.

Time to start thinking about Minicon 2007, hehe!

*squishes back* Thank you!

Of course - it was sitting there on a leaf and everyone else was like, "Ewww!" and I was like, "AWESOME!" even though I only had the vaguest idea what it was. Dude, that insect has big mouthparts. I wouldn't have wanted to be bitten by it.

"Fisting"? OMG!

My French friend tells me off for even using 'merd' let alone such a word! It's always surprising how liberal they are on the continent...

French porn

Regrettably, in an earlier part of my working life, I actually had to give evidence in Canterbury Crown Court re the contents of a (banned in the UK at that time) porn film all in French. "Fisting" was the same word in French and English so I suspect that the subtitles in your film may have been even more explicit than you think.
I still have my notebook re the film I viewed (I'm legally obliged to keep it: I don't keep filth like that for fun!)so if you REALLY want to know what your French word meant I may be able to help.
Wasn't "enceuler" by any chance? (Shan't tell everyone what that means unless they really want to know. The really scary thing was that the judge in our case knew exactly what all the words meant in the title of our French film although they were v explicit and not at all mainstream AND our barrister hadn't translated them for him yet. Actually suspect he enjoyed watching the film in court too!)

Other than that I'm glad you all had a great time and not TOO nightmare a return journey.

*Hugs*

*grins* This was just plain and simple "du fistf*cking". Erm...yeah.

But I'll add that one to my vocabulary as well, now! Thanks! :p

Sounds like an interesting judge...unless he happened to have owned a very very thick French dictionary at school and did the typical teenage thing of looking up all the naughty words! *snigger*

And yes - lots of good memories, but I'm glad to be home!
