Good news:
1. My internet works right away, so I am amongst you once again.
2. Room is OK now I've made it a bit more home-like.
Bad news:
1. Y!M does not work. And will never work. Because they blocked that port. *fumes* I still have AIM, MSN when I can actually be bothered to use it, Skype and ICQ.
2. The regulations imply they don't like us using the internet for "purely recreational use", whatever that means, so I guess when I go online I need to read papers too. LOL I'm not sure whether this is nominally or if it's actually enforced.
In other words, it could be worse but I still can hardly wait to get out of here and get a private place with a proper internet.

Date: 17 Sep 2006 19:06 (UTC)... WHAT. That's just... ghghghg. I can understand having regulations against downloading (which my school has) and porn (which my school does but I don't think enforces, because, I mean... hello, college students).
I hope they don't enforce it. :/ I am so paranoid about the Internet Police busting up in my apartment and arresting me for looking at too much porny fanfic. XD
Actually, my apartment had their own internet provider (via ethernet) with all these rules and regulations and downloading-per-day limit, and last summer it just WENT DOWN. For the entire summer. And they gave me all these excuses: lightning strike, heat, bad connection, so finally I just gave up and, since we already had a Sprint account for the phone, added on an internet connection through the phone port. :/ Since Sprint is a giant company, I don't feel as bad about the massive amounts of downloading that I do or all the bad porny fanfic I read, and my policia paranoia is toned down a bit, although I still have this habit of saving fanfic and reading it offline because I just know someone is watching!
Wow. I digressed. I digressed a lot. D:
Anyways, it's really super lame that they tell you that you shouldn't use the internet for recreational use. I mean... are they kidding themselves? Really?

Date: 18 Sep 2006 15:56 (UTC)Blocking ports seems more of a problem than using different ports fixes -- it seems everyone might as well use 8080 on a different computer name, just to avoid it :)
