I'm in the process of registering with a doctor here in London. The thing is, they want proof of address. The suggest either a bank statement, a recent utility bill, a council tax bill or rent book or benefits book. Unfortunately, I can't supply any of these things - I'm only just informing my bank of my change of address right now cos I'm inept, I don't have any utilities not covered by my rent, I don't pay coucil tax, don't have a rent book and am not on benfits. Would a copy of my tenancy agreement, which has my name and address both stated clearly, suffice? Or my tuition fees bill (which I will have to sort out when I enrol, as the BBSRC have promised to pay my fees...)?

Party was good. Will write up at a later date. Dad knows some really amazing people. Made friends with some people who live in London, will have to visit.

In other news, I am now the proud owner of an Oyster card. Hooray for Eni the Londoner!

Tiring couple of days, hehe!

Meeting with my supervisor at 10am tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting going - hooray bees, flowers, computers, whatever I end up working with!

I used my tenancy agreement as proof of my address once and it worked just fine. :)

I'm struggling with the whole ID thing to (in this case, however, to open a bank account). Explaining to the help desk that being a student and renting means an extreme lack of utility bills, etc was great fun ;)

The joys of verifying addresses! Your tenancy agreement should work (as others have said), but ultimately it depends on how strict they want to be. I didn't need to verify my address at all when I registered with my GP, and I don't even sound British, let alone British-and-residing-in-their-area. :-P

My favourite address verification was when Kirsty and I tried to open a bank account, but in order to verify my address in the UK I need a UK bank statement. Uhh, duh...

So a determined person good at holding their breath can access your money if they make enough attempts?
I find the cards slightly alarming myself as they seem to be trackable.
Abner (who would be less alarmed if he was doing the tracking!)

Can they? How would that work?

What cards?

*lol* *confused, probably owing to having spent all morning staring at Java and SQL*

Not sure to what the can they applies.
The opening the card to get your money was a joke based upon the link saying that the card protected money like an oyster protects a pearl.
The tracking thing seems to be the case (especially if the card is registered) due to the way I understand the car working.
