As some of you may have noticed, I was absolutely desperate to see Nina's Heavenly Delights to the point of obsession.

This interest was motivated by one or possibly two things:
1. Francisco Bosch
2. Lesbians

I have now seen said movie, finally. I am happy.

When I first heard it was out on 29th September, I started looking at cinema websites to see who listed it, and found the one in Tuxietown did. So IM'd Tux and informed her we were going to see it. Great! I planned the trip, booked tickets, was determined to come over.

E-mailed the cinema and found they were not showing Nina, nor did they intend to liek, ever.

OK, I sighed to myself. Where *could* I see it? Cambridge, perhaps? But I had no information except that Cineworld Cambridge would be showing it from Friday13th October. So couldn't plan if I needed to leave work early or what. Possible, but not ideal.

Then I discovered that the week after I was Tuxvisiting, Genesis Cinema RIGHT NEXT TO MY HOUSE had been showing it all that week. But by then it was Wednesday, and I was Aikido-ing on Thursday so couldn't do. OK, I thought, I will go on Friday.

Of course, Friday is the day they change the movies and they decided to stop showing it just in time for me not to see it.

Back to trying for Cambridge, then.

Last night, I noticed the Cineworld at Shaftesbury Avenue was showing it at both 1615 and 2110 all this week. Very well, thought I. I hatched a cunning plan, realising that today I was at Kew and therefore all over the Tube network anyway.

If I got out of Kew in time to get to Piccadilly Circus in time for the movie at 1615, I would see the movie today. If I didn't, I would get to the 2110 showing tomorrow.

I made it out in time today.

Just, barely. As in, delays on District line, wanted to see at least some of Kew, so was on the platform later than planned, didn't have a clue where I was going at Piccadilly Circus as that station is HUGE, with exits every which way. Hared up the turned-off escalator, much to the amusement of everyone, who thought, "What's that girl doing running up one of our giant escalators?!" Came to the next level. Saw another escalator. Swear words went off in my head. I decided another escalator was beyond me, and ascended the conventional way, actually standing still on the escalator. Ran around Piccadilly Circus once, went underground again, got my bearings.

I sort of flew into the cinema, panting in front of the sales assistant, who gave me a bored look as I requested one ticket for Nina's Heavenly Delights with one minute to spare.

Bought Sprite to ensure I survived to see the movie.

Curled up on the back seat of the cinema to cool down, just as the second trailer started.

And so, the movie was, finally, seen. By this time it had become a matter of personal honour that life stopped mocking me and let me see the movie!!

I spent a lot of the movie having a crush on the cute guy two rows in front of me. When we all came out at the end, he got swooped upon by a cameraman who started interviewing and filming him, asking what he thought of the movie, how he'd rate it out of 5, etc.! So random.

Somehow I think they swooped on him not me because he was cute, whereas I looked like...someone who had just travelled across half of London, run around Piccadilly Circus and arrived with about a minute to spare....

It was...pretty much what I expected! A bit corny and a bit clichéd. As in, the kind of lines that sort of come in two parts (e.g. That was then/This is now) where you hear the first half and BEG all higher deities that no one actually says the second half on screen. And then someone does.

But the dancing gay boys are SO DAMNED CUTE! As in, reaching whole new levels of adorable. Bobbi is like...a cross-dressing version of André from But I'm a Cheerleader. Amazing.

Nina and Lisa are prettiful, and kiss lots, of course (I don't think that's a spoiler since it's sort of a given considering the concept of the film) and the fade to black is used plenty in order to keep it PG. I think it's great that a movie with lesbians and gay boys and people of all sorts of sexualities and cultural backgrounds is now deemed not-entirely-unsuitable for children; I was never a fan of the principle that a man and a woman kissing is childsafe, and yet two girls kissing is not. Having said that, there were no male-male snogs on screen, though the script would have permitted it.

Some of the acting was a bit wooden, but most was OK. The dancing was intentionally corny, which made it fun. Fran appeared in a very flattering pair of bright pink trousers. Not a huge amount of Fran time (similar to the exposure Bagoas gets in Alexander), but he did do some coool dancing at the end.

I'm having Indian tonight, topically! Hooray. Yum yum yum.

So yes, the movie is a bit cheesy, and is perhaps not epic, but it was a good way to spend a couple of hours. It was fun, heartwarming and cute, and I'd happily see it again (this is something I rarely say).

Also, Rávo love love loved it with all his little Elfy soul. And I think he wants to marry Bobbi.

In many other ways, this has been an extraordinarily good day. I will elaborate later.

Heh! Good to hear that you had a nice day! :D
*huggles*

Random question: How does one go about catching you online with no YIM?

Ooh, a challenge! Well, I still have AIM, ICQ and MSN, although I use MSN infrequently. I also have IRC and Skype. You can also e-mail, of course, though it's a bit less "live".

I gave up with the Yahoo-and-MSN-talk-to-each-other thing after it kept losing messages and sending me them as e-mails instead.

In other words, almost every other instant messenger apart from the one I'd actually like to use!

O.o

...in other words, all those IM thingies I loathe, and therefore do not use. *pouts* Ah well, since I will have to update LJ soonish anyway, we can discuss it there.
Means I wants to ask you something, but it's not ripe yet.

What's London like in February? ;D

February? Hmm...I'm not sure I've been in London in February for more than about a day in the past. But if it's anything like the rest of England, I'd say "wet". Also, probably quite cold. But unlikely to be very cold because it's so urban.

Yeah...I pretty much loathe most of them too. I forced myself to adapt to Trillian, so at least they all look the same now, but they still all have their individual quirks. My favourite is probably actually ICQ, but there you go. *random*

Also...yay "something" whatever it is!

If I recall it can get very cold. Wet too but not like Cambridge. It varies.

Tolkien has marred my mind.

Glancing at your post, I read the movie title as "Nienna's Heavenly Delights"...

Oooh, I'm glad to hear you saw (and liked!) the movie. It looks very cool, and it's nice to see a gay friendly Asian film once in a while.

Since it's not coming to Newcastle I'm waiting for my screener and then *whispers* I'll be interviewing the director (yes, I'm bragging). :-P Anything you want to know from her? :-)
