Wasps...

Parents' house and gardens are, apparently, devoid of wasps. Spent a good hour yesterday and the same today combing the shed and garden for any signs of hibernating queens, and found none.

I did come across an abandoned nest, perhaps the size of a small apple, but dissecting it only revealed empty cells. Nonetheless, those nests are a real work of art, incredibly delicate and beautiful.

I seem to have more or less wasted the rest of the day, but I spent it with parents and brother, which was lovely. I appear to have watched 4 movies in a day, eep. Still, I enjoyed them all.

Audrey Hepburn made a hotcute nun. Also, Calendar Girls is such a charming movie! I loved it - so funny and so sweet and so true.

I'll make sure to update LJ tomorrow on principle, to prove I truly am a sad geek :D

We never did find ostrich meat for Christmas dinner, so we're having a big juicy rib roast.

The Christmas fic I started, as I expected (and accordingly didn't publicise), is not going to be finished for tomorrow. But never mind. Maybe next year.

Is this the precise academic method of acquiring wasps?
Is the Christmas fic going to be finished for next year do you mean? Not that I will read it anyway.

There isn't really a precise academic method of acquiring wasps. The methods generally used are: sending a crazy entomologist to an abandoned quarry every day for 8 weeks; begging the local council pest control to refer reports of small wasps' nests to us, so we can collect them for free; advertising in local papers for free collection of wasps' nests.

Thus I am willing to try pretty much anything realistic!

And yes, maybe next year, if the urge to write it sticks around that long. Hehe, I didn't expect you to read it, of course - seems to lack elements I'd have thought would appeal to you, e.g. epic battle scenes, and includes elements I'd rather suspect don't appeal so much, e.g. Elves kissing. *grin*
