I thought I'd wait a day or two before updating so I had nice stuff to talk about rather than complaints, so now seems a better time to post than Thursday or something. Even if we STILL have no hot water and I haven't had a shower since Wednesday night, only uncomfortable strip-washes with warm water heated in a kettle...
My new My Beautiful Laundrette DVD arrived this week, so I can watch that tonight with flatmates or another time in my own time. Yay!
Last night we went out to Hummus Bros's new restaurant in Holborn and had yummy yummy hummus. Their special of the day was oriental pork topping, which I had, and which was DELICIOUS. We also had tabbouleh and greek salad on the side, but that barely lasted until main courses arrived. Oh, and I had malabi, which is sort of a bit like creme caramel, only as rich as creme brulée, only made with milk not eggs, and with date honey (which tastes like treacle) rather than caramel. Very rich and rather yummy. Oh, and then I was later fed 2 Krispie Kreme doughnuts after being picked up in a fireman's lift and carried upstairs... I closed my eyes - I did not want to look down on the staircase upside down!
On Thursday I actually had a rather good day, except for being almost flopping with exhaustion. Me & flatmate were demonstrating at Kew, but since we're both interns there, it made more sense to just pop down to Kew first thing and do stuff we needed to do at Kew anyway, and meet the undergraduates after we'd had lunch in the garden. So I did some admin stuff I didn't really want to do but need to, and had the most divine sweet potato soup for lunch.
Undergrads were generally rather fun. I think our enthusiasm rubbed off on them, and so they seemed to have a good time. We'd been told to register them in the third of the three glasshouses we were supposed to tour, so they couldn't just register and go. I made sure I was partnered with flatmate, so neither of us had to deal with Annoying Demonstrator (although essentially a nice person, she doesn't even give the undergrads a chance to prove themselves as anything other than waste-of-space morons, and apparently is so bad at marking that supervisors have to remark all the scripts she does).
Oh, the other piece of news of the week is that I'm presenting at a conference in Finland in June! How exciting is that! The trip also features a tour of a honey farm and some sort of Finnish vineyard (yes, apparently Finland does make wine...). It's supposed to be funded by my CASE studentship money so I don't need to find the cash for it, so altogether it should work out as a really amazing adventure. I'm thinking of adding an extra day on the end for sightseeing in Helsinki - I want to return to St Nikolas's church and visit the angels by the altar there, as they gave me mega bunnies last time I went and I want to finish the fic!
OK, need to get breakfast now. Also need to pop into the department later and check on the bees, as they were way overfed yesterday so wouldn't do any work and I need some new foragers to test!

Hummus Bros is a truly AWESOME restaurant. Their hot spiced apple juice is, liek, the best thing EVAH! :)
