I'm not dead or anything. Just a bit on the busy side.

Got 25 more scripts to mark. I make this out to be approximately 1 Dr Who/Torchwood box set. Excellent! And another ~25 in the pipeline, so more yay!

Both supervisors will be out of country for at least 2 weeks, leaving me to invent stuff to do in the meantime. Perhaps not ideal timing considering:

• I have a set of extremely confusing data
  
• I just finished database and need one of them to go through it and suggest modifications/improvements/tweaks
  
• I am currently writing a paper and need one of them to proofread it
  
• I'm trying to apply for South Africa research permit
  
• I need to submit a conference abstract. Soon

Research permit gets more complicated with each new thing I actually do towards getting it. Anyone suprised I keep procrastinating? Whilst the other student I asked seemed to think all I needed to do was send in one form that, although a load of bullsh*t, was at least straightforward enough, I now find out I need the form, plus a research plan (at least one A4 side), plus a supporting letter from a supervisor, plus my CV, plus some sort of indication I have a collaborator in South Africa. Joy!

Some sort of departmental party this evening. Was OK except that not many people I actually talk to came. And the lecturer promising Scottish dancing didn't deliver. Meh. But there were nibbles, and Banrock Station.

Our student union bar has closed for refurbishment. Thus, the local Wetherspoons is doing enormously good business right now and seems to be full to overflowing with students. Well, I imagine they're happy...

Dammit, this area needs more decent pubs. If the Camel would just move a bit closer...

Starting some new bee experiments as of Monday, I hope! Need to get new camera batteries so I can show you my naughty box, cos it's SO CUTE. YAY!

Definitely busy! This week has been less hectic in terms of things like helping with the undergraduates, bee research and programming, but I've ended up with social life filling in the gaps, and lots of niggly admin things that need doing but are annoying to sort out!

Nah, some conservation folks to do with North Cape. I can understand them being a little finickity - who wouldn't be when the habitat in question is something like Namaqualand? - but it was only this week that my supervisor actually told me about the other things I had to do apart from the form.

Fingers crossed it should all be OK - it's not like I need to pick rare flowers or go squashing insects!

Shame the coalition isn't around any more. They always wanted to measure themselves against South Africa after a news paper suggested half their army was ill and had 3 working tanks. I assume it would accelerate the process!
