So...I set my journal to "Adult Concepts" on the principle that then no one can really complain, and because whereas the OMGThinkOfTheChildren brigade might go through universal-rated journals and try to pick out people posting pr0ny fanfic, they probably wouldn't bother with ones already set to "Adult Concepts".
However, this seems to have meant that now you have to click a stoopid cut to view every bleeping post on my elljay unless you have fiddled in your settings to un-collapse Adult Concepts posts.
It also means people reading my LJ without being logged into one (e.g. my parents, Abner) have to click cuts and be warned about potential content issues ALL the time for every post in my journal. I personally don't like doing that when it's me browsing the internet, not least cos they make me feel like I'm a creepy old man when I'm just a creepy young woman!
Therefore I've set my LJ back to "No Adult Content" so that LJ doesn't start warning you all that me posting about principal coordinate analyses is possibly pr0n, and the OMGThinkOfTheChildren brigade will just have to go away and be poo poo heads. I'm not keen on the whole flagging individual posts, either - I'd rather flag part of a post, since I want my fic headers visible to everyone.
Much bah. Hopefully they'll modify this feature soon, as it's just annoying.

I am so uncomfortable with that I just gave up browsing the site for good.
I think you're pretty well covered... you mostly post about bees and school (which I like reading!), so I don't think someone casually looking over your journal would find anything "adult." I don't think even the most hardcore content monitors would go over every single LJ with a fine-toothed comb. :/

Date: 5 Dec 2007 21:20 (UTC)My idea behind setting my journal to moderately adult is it demonstrates awareness that I might not write about the purely innocent all the time, but doesn't automatically make my journal sound like Porn Haven 2008 or anything!
I do believe LJ when it says it won't bother with content unless it receives multiple flags, since I'm sure there will be malicious flagging and allsorts which means the tail-end of posts with only one or two flags will number into far more than LJ staff could possibly deal with.
My plan is to give SUP a chance, since I'm at least confident my AdBlock will deal with unwanted advertisments pretty well (you know, I didn't even realise YouTube had adverts till I happened to go there in IE once!) and I'm assuming the ToS will remain dictated by Californian law rather than switching to Russian legal stuff all of a sudden! And honestly, all my RL blogging friends are on LJ, so its value to me is half for its blogging facility but mostly for its networking facility of putting all the new news on to one easy to access page. So LJ would have to REALLY suck before I quit.

Date: 5 Dec 2007 22:03 (UTC)My friend said she didn't trust SUP to keep contents and privacy, and that SUP allowed video of racial murder, and the post had tons of Nazi comments. They said it would be taken down if there were complaints. There were many. Nothing happened. Then she emailed in English. Nothing happened. Unless they decide to threat Russians differently than the rest... We'll see how it goes, I guess.

Date: 6 Dec 2007 20:27 (UTC)I can probably be persuaded on to Skype at some point. My online time tends to be rather unpredictable these days - working slightly irregular hours, eating even more irregular hours and being randomly dragged to pub - but if you suggest some times I could see what I can do!
