Consequently I am designating today Glorfindel's Day, as per BOLT II: "...when spring set celandine in the meads and they had held sad festival in memorial of Glorfindel..." Now I'm quite certain Glorfindel would not approve of widespread moping on his account, so instead I've become unbelievably magnanimous and started buying random presents. All persons supplying me with a delivery address are most welcome to share in the present-receiving, as it's always worth giving the Most Gorgeous Noldo Ever a decent party.

I will be indulging in much wine and such things tonight, I'm sure :)

So today is dedicated by Eni to that most fair and noble Elf of Gondolin, and all that he stands for (and I will leave that to your most fertile imaginations). Go Glorfindel! :)

Hmm, sounds lovely, I'm sorry I missed the celebrations. I'm going to be a huge dork and write this down in my planner so that I remember for next year. ;) I have no clue what sort of flower a celandine is (is it the one his house was named after?), though. It must be a Europe thing. Oh, sadness.

Well, there are two types of celandine, greater celandine (http://www.wildflowers.reach.net/celandine.html) and lesser celandine (http://www.nps.gov/plants/alien/fact/rafi1.htm) which ironically are totally unrelated. From what I can gather, both of them have been introduced to the USA. From the way Tolkien keeps on talking about celandines in connection with Glorfindel (his mantle, the festival, etc.) I assumed that this was what the "Golden Flower" was. It's pretty, anyway :)

As an aside, the name 'celandine' comes from the Greek for 'swallow' because they flower at about the same time as the swallows come back.

I really am a bit sad. I have a feeling I'm going to end up in Plant Sciences next year...

Oh, they're both gorgeous, and so bright yellow, too! Sadly, I've never seen anything like that. Could be that I live so far south. But one day I'll have to find some and plant them in honor of Our Favorite Noldor. :)
