So the weekend was really nice.

In the morning on Saturday, we did more cleaning up at the nature garden, followed by a barbeque and a bit of insect ID-ing. I found a male Bombus hortorum with a damaged wing - he couldn't fly but was quite happy to sit on my finger until I moved him to a nice flower to feed off. B. hortorums are ever such ugly, funny-looking things though, with their scruffy hair and beaky faces!

Talking of scruffy, Scruffy the amazing Jack Russell terrier was able to join us for the barbeque (where she discovered that veggie sausages may be cooked in the same way as meaty ones, but definitely don't taste as good!). And a her owner, who helps on some local allotments, appeared with a ginormous pile of spinach, chard and broad beans, so we are replete with delicious juicy vegetables.

In the evening, we all went out to Hummus Bros, and my favourite waiter was there1. Then we went on to Gordon's Wine Bar, where I indulged in a schooner of Messias 10 Year Old2. But because I am getting old these days, one glass was quite enough and I was then ready to go home and have a cup of tea and curl up with Time of the Twins!

But on the way home there was this orange balloon that was floating around near Embankment and everyone was batting it into the air, and then it vanished, and then we saw it again, being carried by a really miserable looking businessman-type. Who stood in the station for about 15 minutes whilst Flatmate #1 and I tangoed outside, and Flatmate #2 took photos of the Spanish buskers who were supplying the music. And then the miserable looking businessman suddenly, apropos of nothing, gave the balloon an enthusiastic and jaunty kick, and smiled. Hooray! The Balloon of Happiness strikes again!

Yesterday we went to a charming little French restaurant in Soho for lunch, followed by an attempt to buy swimsuits and purple jeans on Oxford Street (and failed to get either). Purple jeans may be in this season, but they appear to come in two sizes: tiny and very tiny. I prefer my jeans comfortably roomy and bootcut, not skinny! I like to have circulation in my feet! Oh well, the search will continue...

1I take no responsibility for what Rávo may have written on his blog about said waiter...

2Very very nice Port indeed, but also rather more costly than I'm normally prepared to justify.

You know, if you're going to start dancing in the streets you could at least try a dance that doesn't look really silly.

Harumph.

*doesn't like international tango, can you tell*

Remind me of how Rávo and your brain relate.

Rávo is an Elf who lives in my brain.

He makes me buy Irish dancing DVDs and sulks when I refuse.

His hobbies include dancing, feather boas, eyeing up pretty boys, and admiring wedding dresses.

Sometimes he gives me bunnies and then I write fic about him.

I have pictures of Rávo in my wallet and on my bedroom wall. If anyone ever wanted to win my unquestioning loyalty for all eternity, providing me with more decent pictures of my Rávo would be one of the most effective ways of doing so. :)

hey you!

hey you, thanks for commenting! Hope everything in London's going OK, the way things are going, I might be back there working in '09!

It's good to get out of Catz though - when do you pick up your MA?

London's going fine, submitted a paper on Monday, woohoo, am working on some others, found a new Indian restaurant that's nice (if REALLY spicy).

Sounds like you're pretty sick of Catz now so I can't blame you for wanting a break! I think I'm eligible for my MA from Lent Term 2010, which ironically is pretty much the point when I'm expecting to submit my PhD as well, meaning my poor parents will get the fun of two graduation ceremonies within 6 months of each other, if everything goes according to plan!
